Bush Losing Support Among Supporters (I Have Exposed the LAZINESS of CBS News!)
See B.S. News ^ | 09/070/06 | "journalist" byron "my reporting is the" pitts

At the Kettle Diner in Jacksonville, N.C., it's faith, family and the Corps. Jacksonville is home to Camp Lejuene, the largest Marine Corps base on the East Coast...Even some lifelong conservatives aren't hearing the president's message anymore.

"I've turned him off," said retired Marine Col. Jim Van Riper. "I've tuned him out."

Van Riper is a Christian, card-carrying member of the National Rifle Association who voted for President Bush twice. But as more Marines have died, his confidence in the Bush administration has died as well.

THIS MAN WAS SEEN ON THE CBS EVENING NEWS TONIGHT, NEAR THE TOP OF THE NEWSCAST!

From pitts' pitiful reporting, you might think he stumbled upon Van Riper--a man whose confidence has been shaken recently in the progress of the war, wouldn't you??

Well think again. Byron Pitts and his producer just pulled out another old anti-Bush WHINER.

From the Jacksonville Daily News on November 21, 2004:

Some wondering about war with the departure of Powell

Here's the relevant quote: He was a product of Vietnam," said retired Marine Col. Jim Van Riper, who lives in Jacksonville. "He saw what a disaster that was."

Van Riper, who served in Vietnam and the first Gulf War, believes the Bush administration erred by not heeding the Powell Doctrine before marching to Baghdad. And while he "reluctantly" voted earlier this month to re-elect the president, a cabinet minus Powell is now even less appealing, he said.

"Politics determines policy, and policy drives war," said Van Riper, 66. "Powell clearly understands that. He understood that winning the war wasn't the entire thing - that knocking off Saddam Hussein and the Iraqi army wasn't going to be the end of it.

"I don't think he's perfect, maybe too cautious. But he's a hell of a lot better than Rumsfeld."

And from a report on CNN in December of 2005 detailed on "NewsBusters: CNN's Cooper Yearns for a Cronkite on Iraq

Here is the relevant passage of a John King piece on CNN:

King: "Vietnam and Desert Storm combat veteran Jim Van Riper supports the war and agrees any talk of specific withdrawal timetables is a mistake. But recently, Van Riper wrote his congressional delegation saying he could no longer support the Republican Party, calling Iraq a textbook case of how not to wage a war. Van Riper says the President is in a mess of his own making for standing by his Defense Secretary."

Colonel Jim Van Riper, U.S.M.C., retired: "I'm more convinced than ever that Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld will be the Republicans' Robert S. McNamara, when history's written that's the way he'll be viewed."

King: "Such talk in a patriotic place like this is telling. Tough questions for the Commander in Chief even as bases are bustling with training for the next deployment. For his part, Congressman Jones has no shortage of critics. He says he will keep asking his questions if the President doesn't answer them."

JIM VAN RIPER HAS BEEN WHINING ABOUT THE WAR SINCE NOVEMBER OF 2004!!
But byron pitts' report implied Ol' Gripin' Jim was a RECENT anti-war convert.

Just another reason See B.S. News is worthless and weak.

LOL!

Excellent find!

Like Cindy Sheehan, this guy isn't happy with his one bite of the apple, and I guess he will keep coming back until he stops tuning out W...or gets more coverage.

I wondered how long before someone would post the goods on him. Google is a wonderful thing!

I'm thinking that LGF, et al will also be all over this guy, in the morbid hope that we nail SeeBS once again.

I saw that segment of SeeBS news tonight. The 2 "former Republicans" were such obvious plants they couldn't have fooled a 4-yr old. No suprise to find the geezer was a long-time Bush-basher.

Excellent find. I sincerely appreciate the post to let us know.

CBaSs also ran cover for Armitage, explaining how he let the White House and staff dangle for years when he knew from day one he was the source. Explanation, as most will know, was that the special prosecutor told him not to talk before this. And now the SP said he could.

Let's see, Van Ripper is a damned liar and Armitage is willing to allow someone else to take the fall for himself, even though he new better. And the special prosecutor has known from day one who was the guilty party.

The SP should be prosecuted for this fiasco.

more griping:

from

http://www.armytimes.com/story.php?f=1-292925-1060102.php

The most elaborate war game the U.S. military has ever held was rigged so that it appeared to validate the modern, joint-service war-fighting concepts it was supposed to be testing, according to the retired Marine lieutenant general who commanded the game’s Opposing Force.

That general, Paul Van Riper, said he worries the United States will send troops into combat using doctrine and weapons systems based on false conclusions from the recently concluded Millennium Challenge 02. He was so frustrated with the rigged exercise that he said he quit midway through the game.

He said that rather than test forces against an unpredictable enemy, the exercise “was almost entirely scripted to ensure a [U.S. military] ‘win.’ ”

His complaints prompted an impassioned defense of the war game from Vice Adm. Marty Mayer, the deputy commander of Joint Forces Command in Norfolk, Va. The command, which sponsored and ran the war game, is the four-star headquarters charged with developing the military’s joint concepts and requirements.

“I want to disabuse anybody of any notion that somehow the books were cooked,” Mayer said.
