'The Simpsons' was the best show on TV until about 2000 or so, but the quality of the writing has really gone downhill, along with the unfortunate decision to make the most annoying, least interesting character (Lisa) the star. Groening should try to resurrect 'Futurama' and let Marge, Homer and Bart get some rest.

Screw the Simpsons now(has lost it). I'll take Futurama, thank you very much.

The best of it ranks with any comic writing ever.

Yeah, it wasn't as funny as it was in the '90s, but I hold out hope for each new season.

This show is Bret Favre. It will destroy fond memories and its legacy by hanging on too long. Go away, Simpsons. Please.

I agree: The Simpsons (IMO) hasn't been funny in a long while. It still gets the ratings though, something two of my favorites (Futurama and The Critic) never seemed to get.

Gotta keep that franchise going to push the Simpsons movie!

While I admit that it's been harder to keep it as good as it was, it is STILL better than 90% of the crap they call "comedy" on TV...

Although my kids disagree - always has and always will be a stupid show.

I find "The Fairly Oddparents" much funnier.

They've corporatized their animation into such a corporate cycle (some reports say idea to broadcast of an episode is 2 years) I'm not sure Fox could ever cancel them. If they pulled the plug today there could be as many as 40 episodes in various stages of production, you don't want to throw all that cost away, but do you really want to show 2 more seasons after the decision to cancel?

Then of course there's the fact that if you trace it all the way to the shorts in the Tracy Ulman Show there's never been a Fox network without the Simpsons, I'm sure there's at least a few superstitious people in Fox management that won't want to break that juju.

Kent Brockman: Springfield has come down with a fever: football fever. If you have the fever, there's only one cure. Take 2 tickets, and see the game Sunday morning.

Public Service Announcer: Warning. Tickets should NOT be taken internally.

Homer: See? Because of me, now they have a warning

I think the only people still there that were there in 87 is Murdoch himself. Anyway It didn't stop them from pulling the plug on 'Married with Children'. Mercifully.

I have all the Simpsons episodes that have been released on DVD, but I agree that they are not funny nowadays.

There will be a day when I no longer buy the DVDs.

Love the Simpsons and South Park. I hope neither throws in the towel anytime soon.

I probably just set myself up for a bunch of towelie jokes.
