As Bart Simpson skips into his 18th season

18 seasons? Lessee... Yep. Damn, I'm getting old.

The Simpsons used to be "must see" TV until they started going "gay." At first it was one mandatory "gay" episode per season. Then it was one mandatory homo reference per show.

Sorry, I'm not interested in the butt-sex religion or their propaganda vehicles. May as well watch a Scientology video.

Although my kids disagree - always has and always will be a stupid show.

I totally disagree with this - in it's heyday The Simpsons was the funniest and smartest TV show I've ever seen.

Love the Simpsons and South Park. I hope neither throws in the towel anytime soon.

Well, South Park has kept up the quality. Gotten even better, actually. The Simpsons hasn't - I miss most of the new episodes now.

LOL
The whole Animanics was done at two levels, adult and child comedy. All to funny.

As for Futurerama - What Would Bender Do?

It's very simple. If it doesn't say "Producer: Conan O'Brien", I change the channel.

" Although I miss Futurama."

That's the show on which Al Gore's daughter somehow landed a writing gig even though she's not funny or a good writer, just before the 2000 Presidential election. And then they had an episode where Al Gore saves the universe? While he's campaigning for president in 2000? Nice way to try to get the "young and hip" vote. Sorry it didn't work, Al.

And Richard Nixon's head shows up every other episode to be evil?

Not me. Billy West is the only think that amuses me about that show.

It's last great seasons were seven and eight. Since then, they put out one or two great episodes per year. But the rest, while usually having funny lines, are nowhere near the old days.

Gotta' disagree about Lisa! She's the MOST interesting character. Of my all time favorites, most of them are centered on her.

That show was pretty good, I agree. But then Ren and Stimpy had their moments, too.

Yeah, it wasn't as funny as it was in the '90s, but I hold out hope for each new season.

I don't think the laffs have fallen off as much as we think. It's just that the plots are usually stupid now. In it's prime, it was the most realistic show on TV.

"If they pulled the plug today there could be as many as 40 episodes in various stages of production, you don't want to throw all that cost away, but do you really want to show 2 more seasons after the decision to cancel?"

Ahh, kind of like the Lintilla problem.

So do I, which is why I was able to enjoy the Simpsons for years. I just don't think Futurama is funny. I think Bender is poorly writen and predictable. I wanted to like the show but they didn't meet me half way!

The Simpsons is one of the best shows ever but its time has past and they've run out of new ideas. 18 years is a long time for a show. They should have followed the lead of Sienfield and quit when they were still on the top of their game.

if it is a superstition thing, then quit making new ones and start reruns from the very beginning...

good for another 18 years!

The "NeverEnding Story" episode this past season was pretty decent!

Not worth a new thread, but I came across this [every Simpsons episode in a streaming "You Tube" kind of format] and it reminded me of this post of yours.
