Re the probable assassination attempt on the President's life early on the morning of 9/11, it's one of the several crucial details that seem to have gotten lost in the fog of subsequent events. Like the ties of Mohammed Atta and at least one of his gang of hijackers to anthrax. Heck, even the anthrax attacks, themselves, seems to have faded from most people's memories. Yet I truly belive they were the real reason we invaded Iraq.
You may be right. I grew up without a loving mother, so I can relate to your point of view.
What a worldwide nightmare it would have been if the election had gone the other way. America, the beautiful, God shed His Grace on thee...
Oh my, Wolfstar... it's only 5 years ago but our beloved President looks so much younger in those photos with PM Howard. God bless them both!
The President made it a point to publically thank Ted Kennedy for taking care of Laura, getting her back to the WH etc.
And the Swimmer subsequently stabbed the President in the back, how many times? About a dozen?
Amazing photos of the President and First Lady at ground zero today.
I live about 20 miles away from there, in NJ. When I worked in Manhattan I came through the WTC every day. I still can't bring myself to visit the site. It's completely selfish of me but I just don't want to lose it and I know I can't take it.
That is an awesome point! The contrast in that last photo in post #26 between the Bushes and the Clintons shows the Bushes have something sustaining them that the Clintons do not. It's terribly obvious in that pic.
I remember how frightened I was for President Bush when it was announced that he was coming to NYC that Friday. That's the only word for it, frightened. That entire week I was staying up til 2 and 3 in the morning, afraid that I'd be missing something in all the cable coverage. And none of us knew what would come next.
A simply fabulous tribute you have supplied Wolfstar. I can never forget the images of that fateful day or the courage of our resolute president, George W. Bush. You have recaptured a historic timeline of epic proportions. Bless you! The video of Louis Armstrong (the great Sachmo) singing "A Wonderful World" started the tears to flow again.
One man has class and genuine decency that rises above petty politics. The other doesn't. The Swimmer is a disgrace and the voters of Massachusetts are an even bigger disgrace for continually sending him back to the U.S. Senate.
Not selfish of you at all. I know exactly how you feel. I was born in NJ, raised in Jersey City and Union City before moving to Queens for a few years before moving to L.A. 30 years ago. I remember seeing the twin towers rise as they were being built, and my dad and I frequently took the PATH trains into the station under the WTC.
Even though I moved away so long ago, I still feel the ties to NYC and especially the WTC site. I love old St. Paul's Chapel and the complete serenity one feels inside it. Sigh.
Awesome thread, Wolfstar! It lives up to the promise, and I DID bookmark it so I can read it thoroughly when I am not so tired. ((((hugs)))) Thank you so much for your hard work.
Exactly. The now nearly forgotten anthrax attacks hit toward the end of that September, and most people who paid any attention at all to world events expected more attacks at any time. Yet five years later, no follow-up attacks on our soil, and GWB gets almost no credit for that remarkable achievement.
Will we be hit again. Probably yes, someday. But five years without another attack. No one would have bet cash money five years ago that would be the case on this anniversary.
I love the pics you posted.
I can't imagine having the likes of kennedy and kerry as my representatives.
Although durbin was just as bad, thank GOD I'm not there anymore!!
(capitalization intentionally omitted)
You're most welcome. Whoever put that video together did a terrific job. I love the choice of song for its heavy irony when juxtaposed with the 9/11 images, especially the one where the camera follows a falling body all the way down from the upper floors of one of the towers.
Another one of those videos -- one which I couldn't find again quickly enough to post a link to today -- shows, in close up, the exact moment and spot when/where the North Tower (pretty sure it's the North one) buckled and began to collapse.
I'm so proud of all the people who have saved images and videos on the internet of the 9/11 attacks. As we've seen over the last five years, the MSM will bury most of the story if they can.
I know what you mean about having ties to the area.
Mr.FF's brother lives in southern California. The evening of 9/11, he called us around 9pm our time (luckily Mr.FF had been able to get home by then). B-i-l said to Mr.FF, "I know you were nowhere near the WTC, but I needed to hear your voice."
I think it was just as difficult being 3,000 miles away.
Bump
Hi LUV W. You're most welcome. Glad you bookmarked it, because most of the 9/11 material will still be there for a long time.
