Sen. Feingold faults Bush's war language
By FREDERIC J. FROMMER, Associated Press Writer 28 minutes ago
Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold (news, bio, voting record) called on President Bush to refrain from using the phrase "Islamic fascists," saying it was offensive to Muslims and has nothing to do with global terrorists fighting the United States.
"We must avoid using misleading and offensive terms that link Islam with those who subvert this great religion or who distort its teachings to justify terrorist activities," Feingold said Tuesday in a speech to the Arab American Institute on Capitol Hill.
The Wisconsin senator, a potential 2008 presidential candidate, said the label "Islamic fascists" makes no sense and doesn't help the U.S. effort to combat terrorism.
"Fascist ideology doesn't have anything to do with the way global terrorist networks think or operate, and it doesn't have anything to do with the overwhelming majority of Muslims around the world who practice the peaceful teachings of Islam," Feingold said.
In seeking to explain the term, the White House referred to comments made last week by homeland security adviser Fran Townsend.

If not "Islamic Fascists", then would "Tip-toe Thru the Tulip Guys" work?
If it weren't W udeding I'd say you misspelled something.
Who was it that referred New York as "Hymietown?"
Oh..Jessie (Bush- hater) Jackson. This guy..Fine
gold...fits with Jessie and the gang of "no return"...
no return to power for the Dimocrats...that is!..Jake
Must be a lot of Muslim democrat votes out there
I like Islamic Fascists better because the term you state as correct is closer and sounds like term "Christian Fundamentalists" and that is a problem
The Left wants to create a moral equivalence between conservative Christians and Radical Islamic fascists.
The truth is that Christian Fundamentalists are not running around blowing up innocent people or beheading them.
When did the Senator start doing stand-up comedy?
Feingold.... Will you SHUT UP and refrain from telling the President Who was ELECTED TWICE, what to do.
Go invite the terrorist to your thanksgiving dinner........ but watch out, they sometimes wear bombs around their belly and they don't mind blowing up themselves or your children.
The RNC should pound this into the ground.
"America is engaged in a war against unspeakable evil, yet the Democrats are afraid to even name the enemy."
Russ, you ignorant wanker.
It's just not nice to go around offending people who want to cut our heads off. It might damage their self esteem.
I think you have Feinstein and Feingold confused. Feingold is a "he", but only in the strictly technical anatomical sense.
You said -- "The truth is that Christian Fundamentalists are not running around blowing up innocent people or beheading them."
Yes, and it would help to understand where this "terminology" came from. Let's *see* what the "Five Fundamentals" are -- that form the basis for the terminology of "Fundamentalist"
1. Inerrancy of the Scriptures
2. The virgin birth and the deity of Jesus
3. The doctrine of substitutionary atonement through God's grace and human faith
4. The bodily resurrection of Jesus
5. The authenticity of Christ's miracles (or, alternatively, his premillennial second coming)
Now, this is *really scary* isn't it? Surely the Christians might chop your head off or force you at "swordpoint" to convert.
This reference to the "Five Fundamentals" came from Wikipedia, if you're interested in reading some more.
You said -- "The Left wants to create a moral equivalence between conservative Christians and Radical Islamic fascists."
Yep, that's right. And without those "definitions" of the "Five Fundamentals" someone (in ignorance, and in political persuasion) might want to think so. But, when examining those Five Fundamentals against the "fundamentals" of Islam -- it is *impossible* for anyone to make a comparison of the two. They are in two different worlds -- one from the other.

What "peaceful teachings of Islam"? This guy doesn't have a
clue about what Islam really is.
Sure just call them sweetie pies!
Sheesh!
The correct use of the language does not bend to presonal preferences, Bill Clinton to the contrary notwithstanding.
because the term you state as correct is closer and sounds like term "Christian Fundamentalists" and that is a problem
No, it isn't, any more than it is a problem to use the same word to refer to the local "county police" and to the Taliban "religious police". Persons of normal intelligence can keep track of which is which.
You said -- "I think you have Feinstein and Feingold confused. Feingold is a "he", but only in the strictly technical anatomical sense."
Yep, I think I did. But, they're both "stuck on stupid" -- nontheless.
