Folks,
I'm planning to send a letter to the DoJ as regards last week's attempt by five lib/dem/soc/commie senators to stop the ABC program, "The Path To 9/11". However, since I'm not a member of the legal profession, I'm not sure if I've worded this correctly. I'd appreciate any help or advice you'd be willing to provide. Many thanks.
Doc Farmer

The Honorable Alberto R. Gonzales
Attorney General of the United States
Department of Justice
Room 4400
950 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
Washington, D.C. 20530-0001
12 September 2006
Dear Mr. Attorney General,
I write today to request a formal investigation of five (5) United States Senators
Senator Harry Reid
Senator Dick Durbin
Senator Debbie Stabenow
Senator Charles Schumer
Senator Byron Dorgan
on the following charges:
(1) Violation of the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America
(2) Violation of the Senate Oath of Office
(3) Abuse of Power
(4) Attempted Blackmail/Extortion
The specifics of the accusation are as such. On or about 07 September 2006, the above-mentioned Senators sent a letter to one Mr. Robert Iger, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Walt Disney Corporation (hereinafter referred to as Disney). In that letter, the Senators made specific threats of legal action against the corporation unless they removed or significantly edited a privately-funded and created television program, entitled The Path To 9/11. The Senators used the letter to threaten Disney and its program distributor, the American Broadcasting Corporation (hereinafter referred to as ABC) with sanctions (including but not limited to the revocation of broadcasting licenses of ABC affiliate stations) should their demands not be met.
In the matter (1) above, the action of these elected government officials is a clear violation of the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America, which provides all private citizens with the right to comment on government actions (past and present) without fear of reprisal or interference by the government. While Congress may create laws to regulate broadcast frequencies (as public airways), they have no business controlling political content, whether it be positive or negative coverage. To threaten a private corporation with sanctions simply because a certain political party or group may disagree with the message is a most fundamental and base violation of American rights.
In the matter (2) above, the action of the Senators shows a clear disregard of their Oath of Office, to wit:
I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.
The letter sent by the Senators shows a clear disregard of their oath to support and defend the Constitution (and all of its amendments), as well as their inability to bear true faith and allegiance to same.
In the matter (3) above, the actions of the Senators show, they have gone beyond the scope and authority of their good offices, and have indeed abused their position of power not only in the Senate, but as part of the Senate leadership. While no elected official should be tolerated in such a base manner, the fact that these five Senators are part of the Senate hierarchy makes their action all the more offensive.
In the matter (4) above, the actions of the Senators show, their actions are such that they tried to blackmail or extort actions (not funds) from Disney and ABC, if the demands in their letter were not met. The fact that Disney and ABC did not bow to that pressure does not excuse or ameliorate their attempt.
The letter from the Senators mentioned in specifications (1) through (4) (inclusive) is a matter of public record, and can be obtained by your office directly, from the Senate offices, or from the recipient of the threat (Mr. Robert Iger).
I would appreciate that swift action be taken to investigate this obscene action by duly elected officials of the United States Senate.
Many thanks.
Yours sincerely,
Doc Farmer

The Dem Senators didn't make any more of a threat than I did when I wrote about the bank with no security guard. Sure, some thin-skinned person might think I made a threat, but all I did is make a factual observation.
You catch on quick.
Here is the final version I sent just a few minutes ago. If you'd like a formatted copy, contact me at DocFarmer9999@yahoo.co.uk

DocFarmer,
This is very good. I think the only other thing I would do is make sure you send copies to several newspapers and tell them you are doing that. Your local paper and the NYT (even though we ALL know what will happen once they get it), but also the Washington Times and perhaps American Spectator and National Review.
I'll see about getting an e-Mail list...
Hopefully you are not just indicating that you are just emailing this letter. Most everyone knows where the "delete" key is on their computer. That's what will happen to it in most instances, or claims that the "spam filter" removed it. Etc., etc.
Also, using a public email address such as yahoo, hotmail, AOHell or similar will just show the recipient that you are pretty much clueless and not much of a threat... especially if you use a .uk email address to write to the US Government. Even if you are a US citizen, sending something from another country is just another reason to "delete" or disregard. Just like a political officeholder really doesn't care about someone's opinion who lives outside their political subdivision. 8^(
One thing I learned long ago, if you want to get a response from a government official of any kind or rank, you need to write a coherent, physically written (typewritten, not handwritten) letter, clearly explaining what you want and the circumstances of whatever happened, along with accompanying documentation.
In this case, your letter is well written and that is very good. But you need to find a copy of the Senators' letter to Iger and add a copy of it to your physical letter. [You can't make the recipient go looking for something to back up your request, even if it was published and available to most who would look for it.]
After you have a legible, written letter, with all accompanying supporting documentation [I'd even include a copy of the Amendment you think they violated, and copies of any laws that you feel were violated- or at least their citations], then you make all kinds of copies, and mail to your primary addressee (Atty. Gen Gonzales) the original using US Postal Certified mail, return receipt requested. This gives you a documented acknowledgment and proof of the document being received. If a document must be signed for, a tracking will more than likely be required and someone will probably be assigned to read it and look into it, if only to write you a nice, generically worded "Thank you for your letter" letter-- which of course you can publish and publicize to show the action/lack of action by the recipient.
Anyone you really want to know about your letter, you send it certified-return receipt. Most others just send it by regular mail. But by doing this, many of the people on your list will have to acknowledge receipt of the letter and actually do something to respond to it... throwing it in the round file isn't a safe practise for government employees/officials when there is a trail of proof of their having received and signed for it. If there are 10 or 20 public officials who have to do something to respond to your letter, each of them don't know that all the others on the cc: list aren't going to respond, so they have to in case anyone else responds to you. Maybe you get my drift at this point. I call it shotgunning of the cc: list.
I know it's a pain to do all that stuff, get the certified mail and return receipts, etc., but so do each of the recipients! That's exactly why they will have to respond to it, because there was more of an effort taken than just whipping off a quick email... anyone and everyone on the left side of the Bell curve can and does do that. Very few people actually take the time and make the effort to physically put the letter and materials together and mail by certified mail to make sure they received it.
Firing off an email such as you have is like wetting your pants in a brown suit... it may make you feel all warm for a short while, but nobody will notice. 8^)
Making the effort to do all of the physical things above will make them notice and pay attention, if not respond.
Hope this helps.
I appreciate your comments. At present, all I can do is e-Mail ths letter. My printer's bolloxed up. However, the e-Mails I sent to the officials listed include my contact information (for obvious reasons, I didn't put that data here). Also, the links to the Senate were mostly through their online forms - ALL of them require contact details before they'll accept a message. Furthermore, the recipients can locate my IP address without much difficulty.
Hopefully I'll have a working printer next week, which is when I hope to get these e-Mails followed up. However, in the article I wrote last week where I told the Senators what I thought of their actions, I also stated that if they did not retract their letter and apologise for their action, I would indeed take action. I keep my word.
Oh, and I did check with the DoJ. Surprisingly, as long as you provide detailed information, they will (apparently) accept an e-Mail as a request.
I'm hoping to hear back from Mr. Iger's office tomorrow as regards the letter he received. With that, I believe that this will complete the requirements you mentioned. Who knows, I might even get them to print the letter I wrote too.
As to the return-receipt requested issue, you're absolutely correct, and I'll attend to that as soon as I'm able.
Thanks again for your input. I'll take it to heart.
