ARLINGTON, VA U.S. Senator George Allen released the following statement this afternoon:
Yesterday, I found it especially reprehensible that a reporter would impugn the attitudes of my mother, as Ms. Peggy Fox did in her first question at the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce Senate debate. My mother and father both taught me to abhor bigotry, and Ms. Foxs suggestion to the contrary was deeply offensive.
The notion peddled by the Webb campaign that I am somehow embarrassed by my heritage is equally offensive, and also absurd.
I was raised as a Christian and my mother was raised as a Christian. And I embrace and take great pride in every aspect of my diverse heritage, including my Lumbroso family lines Jewish heritage, which I learned about from a recent magazine article and my mother confirmed.
On several occasions through the years, I have mentioned publicly that my mother's father was incarcerated by the Nazis. I have never known whether he was persecuted by the Nazis because of his nationality, his religious faith, his role as a community leader, or his part in the anti-Nazi resistance.
What I do know is that my grandfathers imprisonment by the Nazis had a profound impact on my mother. It was a subject she found painful to discuss and so we almost never discussed it.
Some may find it odd that I have not probed deeply into the details of my family history, but its a fact. We in the Allen household were simply taught that what matters is a persons character, integrity, effort, and performance not race, gender, ethnicity or religion. And so whenever we would ask my mother through the years about our family background on her side, the answer always was, Who cares about that?
My mother has lived a long and full life, and I hope and pray she will enjoy many more years. She deserves respect and she also deserves privacy, especially where painful memories are concerned. I sincerely hope that simple decency will be respected.
pingage
Democrats and their lackey press step in it again.
PING!!!
Where can I see a transcript of the bitch-slapping?
Allen isn't just wildly flailing his arms; he's not just mindlessly shouting angry rants.
Instead, he's hitting Webb and the Democrats hard, and cleverly, at every turn.
Allen is playing textbook pefect hardball. All facts. Delivered at appropriate times. A relentless offense that doesn't just run the same play into the ground.
Pay attention. This is how the pro's win.
Seems like an umbillical cord has grown between NRO and the New York Times, these days.
Forget the transcript. The video is up at The Allen Blog.

When will someone ask him about his father's role in the Bears 1963 Championship season? You know, the important stuff.
I honestly do not understand what John Podhoretz' problem was with Allen's response; he was hyperventilating about how badly Allen handled the response. Huh? A reporter asked a stupid question and got verbally pimpslapped for it. This is a problem how?
Maybe the whole "macaca" caca finally woke Allen up into attack mode. He should be able to win the race here fairly easily, but he CAN lose it if he sits back and just lets Webb and the Rat-friendly media in this state use him for a punching bag. It's good to see him fighting.

The gloves are off. Trust me.
Good for him, at least he stands up for himself.
imo,, That reporter should have been flogged for such rude and reckless questioning.
Dang, Allen gave that democrat press missy a time out. She needs to be in the corner for the rest of the election.
Bill Clinton diddling the help in the Oval Office is called a "private matter," but George Allen's family heritage and his mother are considered fair game. Exhibit 34,289,572 in the case to prove the collective insanity of the Democratic party and liberalism.
One has to remember that the DC NRO crowd is just as elitist as the DC press crowd, except they take their cues and orders from the DC liberal press crowd and timidly accept those marching orders in fear of not getting invited to the next big DC cocktail party.
Did ya hear the crowd .. they turned on her big time
That's a fact. I've stopped reading it specifically because of the contemptible arrogance of John Derbyshire and John Podhoretz. They sicken me.
Allen is a good guy. I could certainly support this man for the White House in '08!
He sure beats Rudy, John and Mitt on ALL fronts, especially when it comes to standing for something.
Allen/Tancredo!
