Rep. John Hostettler trails his Democratic challenger, Brad Ellsworth, by 15 percentage points in a new poll commissioned by the Evansville Courier & Press.
The poll of 603 registered voters in Indiana's 8th District shows Ellsworth with 47.4 percent of the vote compared with Hostettler's 31.8 percent. Undecided voters number 16.6 percent, and 4.1 percent refused to answer.
Of those polled, 32.7 percent identified themselves as Republicans and a fractionally higher number, 33.5 percent, identified themselves as Democrats. The remainder were not affiliated with either major party.
The poll, conducted Sept. 6-21 by Indiana State University's Sociology Research Lab, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent.

Hostettler down 15 in IN-08? Indiana State University poll
Thanks for the info. That certainly does seem to invalidate this one. Thanks again!
Hmmm. I've never seen a reference to the Indiana 8th district without the word "bloody"...
these internals do not match up
Being from this area, you would not believe the crap that is flying right now! The only thing that Ellsworth has that is going for him is his looks and the Dem's are running with it to the max. He is definitely a pretty boy and other than being the sherriff for the past few years, has not held political office. One 70 year old woman from Princeton, though, actually wrote a letter to the editor of the Courier saying that she was going to vote for him, solely because of his looks. Hostettler has had a rough time of it the past couple elections, if my memory serves me correctly. He beat an old Democrat to get the seat and there is a lot of bad blood, hence the bloody 8th. The mud has been slinging for over a month already.
OK STATE works for DEAN and the DNC folks, he is a paid troll who blogs for the Left. Ignore Him.
Indiana State sociology research lab is another red flag.they are likely amateurs and a sociology (socialism) depart is another red flag. I believe Hostettler is down but not this far.
If you had to make an honest prediction, who do you predict will win?
Got proof? If so, show us.
Yes, I do post a lot of polls that seem unfavorable to our side. But that's because I post almost every poll I see and unfortunately most of them are unfavorable to us right now. But Welike Ike has been following me around to nearly every thread on which I post accusing me of being troll. He has never had any proof for any of his accusations and never will because I am NOT a troll.
My hope is that the sight of some of this nominally "bad news" will incite FReepers to work on behalf of these troubled candidates that desperately need our help this year.
You need to hit abuse on the poster whenever he calls you a troll and stalking is not permitted here either.
Thanks, I completely forgot about the abuse link below each comment. I feel like a dodo now.
i'll call you a troll so you can go lplay your tattle tale game.
Thank god Howard Dean is head of the DNC.
With him as boss the democraps continue to lose seats in an unprecedented manner.
Anybody stupid enough to believe the democraps are tough on defense is already voting for the party of BJ Klintoon.
Oh yeah and smart move on getting the philanderer in chief back into the mix, going to bring a lot of pissed off Republicans out on election day.
You got any Irey-Murtha polls up your sleeve?
Not to my face you won't and you had the chance.
I only did it to make you mad, go play your silly game.
You'll have to do better than that to make me mad and if you think my SAGE advice to a stalked poster is playing a little game, then I can only LOL "at" you.
The lack of polls therefore may be due to a media blackout about the race. Rasmussen would have polled there but he only does statewide races, not districts (The only House race poll I've seen from him was Barbara Cubin in WY-AL).
Ellsworth, just for the fact that he was and still is extremely popular in the Vanderburgh/Warrick/Gibson County areas. I don't know how well known he is a little farther north of here, but in this immediate area, it's hands down.
Knock it off!
It is alright to call me a Stalker?????? Where are my rights???
Mom, I heard a while back that Ellsworth was under fire for not protecting a 14 year witness in a murder trial who was Assasinated.
Any truth to that story?
Also will Nancy Pelosi and a Ellsworth possible vote for her as Speaker be a liabilty for him?
I really have not heard anything about the assasination thing, to be honest. With Pelosi, they have been really playing that ad a lot. There have been numerous ads on TV with Ellsworth going on and on about how he is his own man and he is not going to let Pelosi tell him how to vote and all that. They have been really trying to play that particular issue down. I'd have to say that Hostettler is in deep trouble here, but then, he managed to pull the last election out, it was close, but he did manage to win. He has a real conservative base and if he can get them fired up and out there drumming up votes, he might be ok. Hostettler has been right on a lot of things that look bad at the time, like the Katrina money, he voted against the initial aide package, which they really nailed him on here, the democrats were on TV constantly during that mess, but John came out being correct on how it was all handled wrong and the money was wasted. Of course, you never here them coming back and saying he was right.
