MSNBC loudmouth Keith Olbermann flipped out when he opened his home mail yesterday. The acerbic host of "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" was terrified when he opened a suspicious-looking letter with a California postmark and a batch of white powder poured out. A note inside warned Olbermann, who's a frequent critic of President Bush's policies, that it was payback for some of his on-air shtick.
The caustic commentator panicked and frantically called 911 at about 12:30 a.m., sources told The Post's Philip Messing. An NYPD HazMat unit rushed to Olbermann's pad on Central Park South, but preliminary tests indicated the substance was harmless soap powder. However, that wasn't enough to satisfy Olbermann, who insisted on a checkup. He asked to be taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where doctors looked him over and sent him home. Whether they gave him a lollipop on the way out isn't known. < snip >

Was it suspicious looking before he opened it, or after he poured out the powder. Seems to me if it were "suspicious", he should have contacted police or fed or whoever to open it under proper conditions.
He probably sent it to himself. Why would anyone want to send anything to the goof-ball and get in trouble? The only way for him to generate any publicity is to fake an attack on his person. What a jerk!
Obviously they did not do a psychological evaluation or Keith would have had to stay a long long time.
He's a major jerk, but this is not the way to handle jerks. Someone went too far, obviously.
I really dislike Odorman. . .but that's a very bad thing to do. . .not funny at all. . .that stuff is dead serious. . . not a joke.

Yeah, Olbermann long ago entered the Ted Rall Zone of unmentionable sleaze, but using such tactics against him is not right. Just change the channel; ignore him; starve him of figurative oxygen.

I'm assuming he's the one who sent it until proven otherwise.

I agree. This reminds me of the time Morton Downey Jr. had some phony skinheads beat him up in an airport restroom to boost his ratings.
Morton's plan wasn't even that elaborate. He beat himself up, and claimed that the imaginary skinheads drew a swastika on his forehead.
It was obvious that he drew it on himself, using the mirror, since the dope drew it backwards!
That's gonna leave a mark...
