House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., requested Sunday that the Justice Department conduct an investigation into former Rep. Mark Foley (news, bio, voting record)'s electronic messages to teenage boys a lurid scandal that has put House Republicans in political peril.
"As Speaker of the House, I hereby request that the Department of Justice conduct an investigation of Mr. Foley's conduct with current and former House pages to determine to what extent any of his actions violated federal law," Hastert wrote in a letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.
Whoa...I hadn't heard that. Been out of the loop most of the weekend. Brian Ross actually did that?
So he left Friday..early afternoon..and no one has heard from or seen him since.
That is the money quote. According to the ABC story tonight, some of the im's date back further than we thought. Pages were warned by somebody as far back as 2001 about Foley. Who warned them. My guess is somebody on the administrative side. I believe the leadership screwed up here, but only for the past year. Somebody institutionally screwed up. It could be clerks, somebody running the page program, but there is some liability here. There were people working in the building who have buried this for 5 years.
Really? Which Kennedy dope addict?
Indeed..., the truth comes out (along with Cg. Foley)!
Good! Get everybody! Never know WHO may turn up.
Where have these messages been for the last five years?
We can look...
I haven't seen or heard anything about him, but I've been out.
Foley has been at this for a while. He had to know a shoe could always drop. Most kids do not come forward in this situation. I suspect there are probably well over a dozen kids who have information.
Institutionally somebody screwed up too as I just posted. The speaker, the leaders didn't hear anything at all about anything until last fall. Yet pages were being warned in 2001 about Foley. By whom?
You have to understand who becomes a page. These are kids of very prominent members in the district. Joe Sixpack's kid isn't a page.
There are probably abuses going on of democrat pages too. The problem is, these kids are 16, and their parents are huge contributors to the parties. That is why Foley preyed on them. They were very likely to keep their mouths shut.
If you don't mind, please do. Jason is a troll for sure and he's up to his stinkin neck in this.
Quite the incestuous group, huh?
This is a lie; the pages do NOT work FOR the congressmen; they work FOR the House.
" I distinctly heard Wolf Blitzer on Late Edition "
This morning, I distinctly heard Wolf Blizter describe Hastert
as being " complicit " in Foley's activities.
Blitzer's intimation was despicable .
The Republican leadership knew about this pervert since '05. We conservatives must admit that our party has been hijacked by inept leadership that does not represent our principles. We must dump big government losers if we want to retain control of the government.
We must stop making excuses for losers such as Hastert and Bush!
Why do you drag the President in to this?
I am pissed at the leadership, but it's trollish to lump President Bush into this mess. I can guarantee you that George W. Bush wouldn't have put up with this crap in the White House.
I'm glad you pointed that out- I was under the impression that was the case..
We need to keep the Clarice Feldman article in the "folder" also...that was the first one today that I read with a lot of this information..
Focus is important. Those that attempt to spin and deflect to another party are detrimental. Foley resigned. He, and he alone is culpable. Any "conservative" that runs to the defense of a pederast will further alienate those of us who are not sworn to the party. Condemn the actions, even if "overly friendly"; or join the ranks of those that could care less about what is proper. My stance is clear: Foley should turn himself in to the Justice Department- hey if you did not do anything wrong, you have nothing to fear so forgo your rights- or he should get legal counsel, or he should do himself.
Uh no, the House leadership knew of overly friendly but not sexually explicit e-mails by foley, the IM's became public last Friday, but you already knew that and are trying to be a troll to muddy the waters.
