House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., requested Sunday that the Justice Department conduct an investigation into former Rep. Mark Foley (news, bio, voting record)'s electronic messages to teenage boys — a lurid scandal that has put House Republicans in political peril.

"As Speaker of the House, I hereby request that the Department of Justice conduct an investigation of Mr. Foley's conduct with current and former House pages to determine to what extent any of his actions violated federal law," Hastert wrote in a letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

I don't believe AP has to be excerpted.

"As Speaker of the House, I hereby request that the Department of Justice conduct an investigation of Mr. Foley's conduct with current and former House pages to determine to what extent any of his actions violated federal law," Hastert wrote in a letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

Best to learn the true extent of this scandal asap, rather than to let the Rats make up stories. Did physical molestation take place? is what needs to be learned.

I wonder what ever happened to that Dem congressman who had $90k in his Capitol Hill freezer? Or the one that hit the Capitol Hill police officer? Or the one that hit the barricade at 2am on his way to a vote? Or the one who's girlfriend was found in a Virginia park? Or the President that used his influence to get an intern to have sex with him in the Oval Office?

Oh you troublemaker

Dems have special immunity, yaknow. it was granted when the Senate refused to try clinton for sex crimes.. and would not even look at all the boxes of evidence gathered and hidden away in the basement of a congressional building..

If repubs have anyone to blame for their karma, it is themselves. when golden opportunities are squandered as they were and are now being, the rules no longer apply to that side that was initially granted a pass.

Looks like Hastert is sending a strong message here.

Isn't it a real shame that Hastert did not send this strong message some time ago ... when this first came to his attention ... and while Foley was still a member of the House of Representatives?!

Well, that should shut them up. I bet they thought Hastert would refuse.

Once it goes to DOJ, it will be an ongoing investigation, and none of the leadership will be able to comment.

It is my understanding that Hastert only saw the e-mails, which were a tad too friendly but not explicit. The IM's were not revealed until this week, and those were the things with explicit sexual comments.

Good point. Pelosi and Barney Frank will call it a conspiracy to cover up.
