House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., requested Sunday that the Justice Department conduct an investigation into former Rep. Mark Foley (news, bio, voting record)'s electronic messages to teenage boys a lurid scandal that has put House Republicans in political peril.
"As Speaker of the House, I hereby request that the Department of Justice conduct an investigation of Mr. Foley's conduct with current and former House pages to determine to what extent any of his actions violated federal law," Hastert wrote in a letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.
WOW
This is getting too complicated for MSM to report accurately. That's the downside.
Daniel Berger, a member of CREWs board, is a major contributor to Sestaks campaign.
His Philadelphia law firm, Berger and Montague, has given $12,850 to the retired Navy admiral so far. Berger himself maxed out with $4,200 in Sestak contributions. And he has poured gobs of cash into other Democratic causes including the campaigns of congressional candidates Lois Murphy and Patrick Murphy, U.S. Sens. Hillary Clinton and Robert Menendez, and Senate candidate Bob Casey Jr.
Berger did not return a phone call or an e-mail Thursday, but CREW spokeswoman Naomi Seligman Steiner said her organization has "no idea who our board members support or dont support." She said the report was compiled by staffers, and neither Berger nor any other board member has a say about which politicians are targeted.
Weldon isnt buying it. "Partisan hypocrisy is obviously CREWs stock-in-trade," his spokesman said, alluding to CREWs Democratic ties.
Bump. Weldon is familiar with a wing of CREW.
By letting him go so long. If the stories are true we were warning pages back in '01 then I have some real quibble with the leadership.
Both for letting him stay in the party and also for having allowed this to go from being exposed early in the race to turning into the october surprise +/- a few days and costing us another house seat.
Won't happen. What he'll probably do is do a McGreevey - hitting the talk show circuit to hawk a disgusting homosexual-tells-all biography.
Been out of the loop most of the weekend...plumbing emergencies..what a mess.
But not, I see, as big a mess as THIS all is...I see two scandals here- 1) Foley and his truly appalling behavior and 2) George Soros and his merry band of scandalmongers letting this info loose with timing that simply can't be coincidental..
WOODFACE on with Mike Malice .. CBS .. just said American forces are getting attacks an hour. I just don't believe this.
I think the GOP is on strong ground here.
EVen FNC is getting it wrong. Juan Williams was a COMPLETE BOOB in getting the difference between house emails and Instant Massages confused.
The round table botched the distinction.
The sex messages were disclosed by ABC friday as part of a story dump for friday. (they red shirted the story)
The ENTIRE media is dancing around the fact that a homsoexual was trying to sexually recruit a minor.
If this incubates for a few weeks it will have the effect of boosting marriage amendment passages up for referendum.
I haven't read or heard any news today .. but my understanding is the emails were dated 2005 and were not graphic in detail
The IM's where dated 2003 which were graphic .. and that Hassert was not aware of them till this week

Yep. Trace kcvl's posts in her forum page.
Agreed.
David Brock! Is anyone left out?
Heaven only knows what that means.
First, if your rumor that the pages receiving the IM's is true, pages from 2001/2002 are the ones getting the IM's, well this brings up a plethora of possibilities.
Now I'd like to believe that Hastert and the Repubs tried to deal with Foley in the gentlest way possible. But the margin in the House and Senate is awfully close. It could be that keeping that margin was so important that Repubs looked the other way.
Second, I heard that the IM's came from a hotel room where Foley was staying. Which means he had a laptap of some kind and he had to have an Internet provider.
If I send IM's to someone I don't know how they could trace it to me UNLESS my ISP provided it.
Now I know they could take Foley's computer and perhaps find trace of these IM's. But could they do that without some sort of subpoena? Surely Foley could deny that some fly-by-night Instant Messenger with a lot of XXX's in the user name was him.
Best I can figure now, the kid saved the IM's and somehow, somebody managed to find out just WHO sent them. I figure the ISP provided that, somehow and some way. For sure Foley didn't confess and indeed, up until the IM's were revealed his office was all cute and stating the emails were innocent.
SOMEHOW the Foley people found out he was busted and he resigned. He wouldn't have done that without knowing he was identified positively and with no doubt.
I choose to believe Hastert when he says he specifically asked if the offending emails were of a sexual nature and was told NO.

I'm pretty sure if you are using AOL or Yahoo, the server you are on records the IMs.
