"I thought that was a valid question."

You did, huh.

"Care to insult me now?"

Why?
You've done a pretty good job insulting yourself.

So you agree with the RINO from CT then, Donald Rumsfeld should resign?
Just yes or no, providing you're capable of staying on topic.

...& save the bullcocka for someone else. ;^)

YOU are the one that has the "stupid answer"...because that answer was only part of a very long answer about a LOT of things..and NOT about the armor for Humvees..which at the time, they did have enough of.

That person was put up to ask that question by the press.

BTW...CHECK OUT MY TAGLINE!

"'You go to war with what you got!', Rummy replied."

Well great fancy Moses, kiriath_jearim! What the hell else would you propose going to war with?! An army does not always have the luxury of sitting on its ass and doing further research when the balloon goes up. You either dance or stand against the wall. I would remind you that America had substandard aircraft, torpedoes, armament, and armor when we entered WW2. We learned quickly, we adapted, and we kicked ass (except for the torpedoes, which sucked all the way). But we had ingenuity, we had industrial capacity, we had manpower, and we had blood in our eye.

Today, on the other hand, we have communist criminal union thugs, strikes, outsourcing, NAFTA, environmental whackos, a Democrat-led 5th column, a treasonous press, and a military that has been become a "right-sized" six sigma corporation filthy with political correctness, speech police, sexual harassment training, and Clintonista commanders. If we had gone to war with our current military structure and organization in WW2, Hitler and Hirohito would have handed us our asses in less than a year.

I don't think that SECDEF Rumsfeld should necessarily be fired or resign his post. But I do think that he needs to explain why he has not modified his use of our armed forces to adequately address the threat that our forces encountered after the initial hostilities were finished. Here is why I think thus:

1: SECDEF Rumsfeld stubbornly held on to his pet concept of scrapping large-unit warfare in favor of small unit tactics after events in Iraq proved their ineffectiveness. To wit: committing lightly-armed, lightly-armored units piecemeal into a very large theater of operations and failing to keep previously-won real estate clear. Our army beat Saddam's army, but failed to conquer and to secure what had been won because of inadequate troop deployment. So the goathumpers were able to flood back in as soon as we left that area to our rear.

2: SECDEF Rumsfeld failed to commit sufficient troops and firepower to stop the flow in-country of munitions and personnel from Iran and Syria after the fact of their avenues of communication with AQI were obvious. Again, Rumsfeld utilized small units and Predator drones to try to will a gap hundreds of miles long. The failure of this methodology is evidenced by the continued and unremedied slaughter of innocent Iraqis and American troops by suicide bombers, IEDs and car-bombs.

Look, folks. I find it supremely galling that we have the most highly-trained, mobile, and powerful troops on earth, and yet we cannot prevent our troops from being blown up by some goathumper with a box of explosives and a cell phone. That just ain't right, folks. As a veteran, watching my service brethren die like that without having the support from SecDef to solve the root of the problem just plain pisses me off.

I fervently support the Global War On Terror(TM). I support President Bush. I support America's mission. I support our armed forces. I am all for rolling into Tehran and Damascus next week and then saddling up for Pakistan, and gutting the DNC while we are at it. But for criminy's sake, let's give our forces numbers, firepower, armor and tactics that will enable them to get the job done all the way and stop playing Megaforce!

All I want Rumsfeld to do is to stop using bucket brigade tactics to put out a 5-alarm fire in a munitions factory. That's all. If he just does that and drops this stupid "GI Joe vs. Cobra" silliness, I will back him 100 percent.

Shoot...the President wouldn't even be able to get a decent SEC of Defense confirmed.

Look at what is happening with Bolton.

You don't know that...though, do you???

Second guessing, 20/20 hindsight, Monday morning quarterbacking, armchair quarterbacking...and INTERNET monday morning quarterbacking is EASY.

He and Bush and Cheney have had to make the hard decisions BEFORE they knew what would happen.

Webb would have also...but he cut and ran from the Republican party...and turned Kerrylike...why do you even think HE would have the stones to handle that kind of pressure??

You are so right about that...

It is a RINO holding up Bolton's confirmation vote on the floor of the Senate.

Sleuth, you are right. I agree. And I know full well that my criticism of Rumsfeld's approach is pure Monday morning quarterbacking, too.

The bottom line for me is that I want our troops to have the best support, the best numbers, the best firepower, and the best leadership possible. i don't think Rummy should step down- I said that before. And on thing I admire about the man is his ability to stand up and take the flack for things that others disagree with. He has my admiration. I just don't agree with his tactics, that's all.

"I'm just pointing out the conundrum..."

I understand.
My apologies for being, Mmmmm, brusque with you.
There's [a] method to my madness, though. :^)

"The Republican party can insist on ideological purity and live in the wilderness, or it can embrace its liberal members (from districts where conservatives can't win) and maintain its political power."

Only for the faithful majority to be bushwhacked later by the Liberal-Socialists who've hijacked America's Democrat Party?
Liberal-Socialists working in full cooperation & conjunction with ABCNBCCBSCNNMSNBC/LA-NYSlimes, WA Compost, Atlanta Urinal & Constipation, US Snooze etc ad infinitum ad naseum??
RINOs are used, people *like* Shays, to undermine the "conservative" cause, ala our duly elected President & indirectly insoding all those loyal, who support him.
No thanks, druby.

I think the electorate deserves Liberal-Socialists who are Liberal-Socialist and "Conservatives" who are conservatives.
When/if we allow, *permit* "hybrids" we're asking for trouble and coincidentally just this week the conservatives are getting a bellyfull of what happens when this happens.

Yes my friend, it truly *is* a "conundrum".
But it's important all conservatives thoroughly understand it's a conundrum fashioned for us, not by us.
We as conservative voters have a say & when we abdicate that privilege is when conundrums are *born*.

Any political conundrum disappears when our elected representatives present a unified face in these strange, convoluted times what-with the America hating Liberal-Socialists & their quisling media being what it *is*.

You & I can disagree, but not our elected conservative reps who're supposed to be working together, toward the same goals and not calling for the resignation of a man whose been more loyal to our POTUS and those of us who voted for him than any other single individual.

If Shays' district doesn't like him as a loyal conservative, too bad.
We'll get by & be better for it.
Let the people of CT elect a Liberal-Socialist & get the "real" thing & be done with it.

"We get the government we deserve"
It's true druby, we really do.
IF Shays said what he did only to get elected, then that'd make him a panderer *&* a liar.
Wouldn't it?

"Like BOR says, tell me where I'm going wrong here."

You're not "wrong", per se.
Just haven't looked at the "Big" Picture", I'd suspect.
Not yet, but you will.
After you've been beaten-up enough times.

So tell me, do you agree with Shays?

...think Rumsfeld should resign?

I agree completely. I will always honor anyone for wearing the Uniform, however that does NOT mean said Vet has a blanket amnesty to do what ever they feel like the rest of their life. They are still humans. Actions have consequences.

I believe Rumsfeld should have resigned in 2004.

Or at least quietly change policies of his that have been wrong. Who says that a bunch more Predators wouldn't help us to patrol the sky in Iraq looking for IED-planting teams? I recognize that takes manpower to crew them all, but I'd rather see a push to ramp up for war than to just extend Guardsmen tours, etc.

I believe President Bush when HE says that the military can have anything they ask for..

Now, all of a sudden, we get these stories from "ex" military, saying they were intimidated by Rummy...that he is arrogant, and wouldn't listen, yada, yada.

Well...I would say that he has earned the right to be arrogant.

I saw a special on Fox this last weekend about his career...and he has paid his dues...unfortunately, the dems and MSM have decided that one tactic they will use is the smearing of anyone in the Bush Administration, or Congress, that has an (R) after their name...is not worthy...

UNLESS they have served in the military...

You can thank Kerry, Murtha, Hagel, Warner, Graham, for helping that.

Therefore, in so many minds, the resume that Rummy has is insufficient because he wasn't a war HERO...

Of course these are the same people that were screaming that Hayden should NOT get confirmed for the CIA chief because he IS military...go figure.

I respect your opinion...but, also one of Rummy's "duties" has been to streamline the military...which has also fed the talking point that we are fighting on the "cheap".

Since I NEVER served...and haven't studied military history...I will defer to you about Rummy's tactics..

I just think TOO many people are looking for a scapegoat..and thank GOD Bush isn't one of them.

I think the war isn't going well. We need a change in tactics. If Rumsfeld can do that, I don't think he has to go. Just hanging tough isn't going to cut it.

Shays is the only "Republican" I would really like to see bite the dust. His commericals really piss me off, and his campaign finance bill was a despicable assault on the Constitution. He is a schmuck, and is running behind in the polls. Good riddance.
