Mark Foley had dispatched an inappropriate e-mail message to a 16-year-old male former page, the House Republican leadership was still urging him to seek re-election from his Florida district. He agreed. It was a success that surely will cost the Republicans Foley's seat in Congress and perhaps control of the House for the first time since the 1994 election.

How about we discuss the FACTS. Foley is a bad guy. He was forced to resign by Republicans. He is being investigated and may end up in jail. However, Democrats sat on the information for almost a year that could of gotten Foley delt with MUCH earlier because they felt it was MORE important to use it as a cheap campaign stunt. Meanwhile, 56 Democrat Congress critters face ethics or ciminal investigation and NOT ONE of themse has been required to do ANYTHING by their party leadership. NOT ONE.
This Foley crap is nothing but nonsense and noise. He resigned. He is under investigation. He will be prosecuted. Meanwhile the REAL important stuff is not being talked about so the Junk Media drama queens can hyperventilate about a complete NON issue and divert attention off the Democrats complete lack of anything that even looks like a sane idea of a plan for our future.

There were two other pages interviewed on TV last night. Foley had talked sex with both of them as well almost from the beginning. Others were quoted as having been informally warned about Foley as long ago as '98. I dont think this story is blowing up in the way you seem to think it is.
True but at the rate things are going no one will be talking about those issues between now and the election. You hardly seem them even mentioned here on FR. Its all about how the Dems did this or that to make Hastert look bad.

I'm not saying anyone, except Foley, has done anything wrong in the present case (and I have no opinion on whether what he did was criminal -- but it was certainly wrong. I have the old-fashioned idea that Congressmen ought to aspire to a level of citizenship higher than "technically not felonious.")
I think that many Republicans will use the Foley case to excuse the Party's poor performance in these elections, when it was coming before Foley got outed anyway. Most districts are not competitive -- but in many which are the Republicans are getting their heads handed to them. Good, competitive candidates like Diana Irey and Mark Kennedy are being starved of resources. Instead the committees threw fortunes into the primaries, to promote internecine fighting among Republicans (and, oddly enough, in every case in support of the more liberal candidate).
It think it's less a conservative/liberal thing, than the committees only wanting to help candidates who will be sure to play the inside game in DC. There is very little daylight between Dems and Reps on most issues. Both of them always go for the federal government and against the individual citizen.

It has been one of the intresting things to observe watching Washington DC in action.
It occured to me last week that the US political scene is as much DC Establishment vrs the American People as it is Republican vrs Democrat.
Just because we won in 2000, many of US Conservative have forgotten that the DC Establishment is still our blood enemy. Politics is not just Democrat vrs Republican, it is also largely a battle of the DC Establishment vrs the American people.
That best indication of that divide is John McCain and the RINO Senators. EVEN when the President is totally right, they always find a way to straddle the issue. To try and be on both sides of the issue to avoid being seen as supporting the President. That is why you hear all the rage on the Left that "the Republican Senate sold us out" to Bush over the Detainee bill . To many people in the DC Establishment it is not so much Republicans vrs Democrats but Old Boy Washington vrs the Hick Newcomers. Observing how most long term Republican politicians act these days make it pretty clear some Republican politicians and operatives are running scared of the DC Political-Media Complex.
They just cannot seem to grasp that Talk Radio, the 'Net and Cable TV News is destroying their cozy little Information monopoly. They cannot seem to grasp that they can no longer be one type of politician in DC and a different one back home in Red State America. Now days people KNOW what Pols did almost as fast the Pols do it. For the seniors of America, more choices and more control will mean better health care. These are the kinds of health care options we give to the members of Congress and federal employees. What's good for members of Congress is also good for seniors.
* New Health Savings Accounts: Effective January 1, 2004, Americans can set aside up to $4,500 every year, tax free, to save for medical expenses. Depending on your tax bracket, that means you'll save between 10 to 35 percent on any costs covered by money in your account. Every year, the money not spent would stay in the account and gain interest tax-free, just like an IRA. These accounts will be good for small business owners, and employees. More businesses can focus on covering workers for major medical problems, such as hospitalization for an injury or illness. At the same time, employees and their families will use these accounts to cover doctors visits, or lab tests, or other smaller costs. Some employers will contribute to employee health accounts. This will help more American families get the health care they need at the price they can afford.
Homeland Security, Border Enforcement & Immigration
1. *See Government Reform above. Under President Bush's leadership, America has made an unprecedented commitment to homeland security.
2. Has CONSTRUCTION in process on the first 10 ABM silos in Alaska so that America will have a defense against North Korean nukes. Has ordered national and theater ballistic missile defenses to be deployed by 2004.
3. Announced a 9.7% increase in government-wide homeland security funding in his FY 2005 budget, nearly tripling the FY 2001 levels (excluding the Department of Defense and Project BioShield).
4. Before DHS was created, there were inspectors from three different agencies of the Federal Government and Border Patrol officers protecting our borders. Through DHS, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) now consolidates all border activities into a single agency to create "one face at the border." This not only better secures the borders of the United States, but it also eliminates many of the inefficiencies that occurred under the old system. With over 18,000 CBP inspectors and 11,000 Border Patrol agents, CBP has 29,000 uniformed officers on our borders.
5. The Border Patrol is continuing installation of monitoring devices along the borders to detect illegal activity.
6. Launched Operation Tarmac to investigate businesses and workers in the secure areas of domestic airports and ensure immigration law compliance. Since 9/11, DHS has audited 3,640 businesses, examined 259,037 employee records, arrested 1,030 unauthorized workers, and participated in the criminal indictment of 774 individuals.
7. Since September 11, 2001, the Coast Guard has conducted more than 124,000 port security patrols, 13,000 air patrols, boarded more than 92,000 vessels, interdicted over 14,000 individuals attempting to enter the United States illegally, and created and maintained more than 90 Maritime Security Zones.
8. Announced the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), an internet-based system that is improving America's ability to track and monitor foreign students and exchange visitors. Over 870,000 students are registered in SEVIS. Of 285 completed field investigations, 71 aliens were arrested.
9. This week, the US-VISIT program began to digitally collect biometric identifiers to record the entry and exit of aliens who travel into the U.S on a visa. Together with the standard information, this new program will confirm compliance with visa and immigration policies.
10. Eliminated INS bureaucratic redundancies and lack of accountability. 11. Split the Immigration and Naturalization Service into two agencies: one to protect the border and interior, the other to deal with naturalization.

14. Information regarding nearly 100% of all containerized cargo is carefully screened by DHS before it arrives in the United States. Since September 11, 2001, hundreds of thousands of first responders across America have been trained to recognize and respond to the effects of a WMD attack.

Reinstall the Federal Regulator burden dismantled since Ronald Reagan stated dismantling the mess in 1981.
Create a National Socialized single payer "health care" plan modeled on Cuba's system
Reimplemented the Fairness Doctrine to destroy talk radio
Pass a new Campaign Finance Law to eliminate any opportunity of Democrats ever losing Congress again.
Make Abortion on Demand for any female at any time no matter how young. Pass Federal Legislation to undo the gains the Pro Life movement has made at the State level since 2000
Pass new "Voters Rights" legislation that will made wide spread Voter fraud even easier then the 1993 Motor Voter laws did.
Block anything the President trys to do no matter what it is.
The Democrats have been very clear what their agenda is. Too bad Conservatives are too busy screaming endlessly at their own side to wake up to the coming disaster.
