Here’s a web site whose time has come: CAIR Watch, whose motto is “Keeping an eye on hate.”
There’s a lot to watch, as the Council on American Islamic Relations gets more and more active in the US, and mainstream media refuses to deal with their many well-documented ties to extremists and convicted terrorists.
Here’s the latest example of that refusal, in an LA Times article about an Islamic candidate for Anaheim’s City Council, portraying CAIR as a “mainstream civil rights organization,” and the whistleblowers as “Islamophobic” kooks: GOP Leader Says Anaheim Council Candidate Backs Extremist Groups.
The accusations against Bill Dalati, an insurance agent who was born in Syria and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1987, surfaced last week in a letter from former state Republican Party chairman Shawn Steel and on various websites. On the OC Blog, a politically conservative website, the headline atop the letter opposing Dalati’s candidacy read “Something Scary in Anaheim.”
Steel, the state GOP leader from 2001 to 2003, said he wrote the letter to alert fellow conservatives that Dalati — a moderate Republican — could be a “Manchurian candidate.”
“He looks good on the outside, but the guy could be an extremist,” Steel said Friday. “Is his primary concern to fix the potholes and improve the city, or does he really have an agenda here to support extremist organizations and cloak them with respectability?”
In the letter, Steel questioned Dalati’s connections to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, later calling CAIR a “pretty radical, nasty group.” He also cited Dalati’s involvement with an Anaheim rally protesting the Israel-Lebanon conflict, and his endorsement of Rep. Cynthia A. McKinney of Georgia, a Democrat.
Dalati, who came to the U.S. in 1984 and has been an Anaheim resident for 12 years, said he was frustrated and angered by the letter. “I need to be out on the campaign trail, not worrying about all this negative stereotyping,” Dalati said. “People should look at the issues, not where I came from. Everybody came from somewhere. It’s clear that my faith and my heritage are the reason they don’t want me around.”
Dalati, a 41-year-old Muslim, doesn’t deny that he supports CAIR, the largest Muslim civil rights group in the country and largely viewed as a mainstream organization. Local Republican law enforcement officials such as Orange County Sheriff Michael S. Carona and Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca have attended the local chapter’s fundraisers.
UPDATE at 10/9/06 12:54:06 pm:
Here’s another example of MSM whitewashing, in a New York Times article about Islamic candidate for Congress Keith Ellison that makes no mention of Ellison’s ties to CAIR—even though his opponent Alan Fine has made it a campaign issue: Democrat Poised to Become First Muslim in Congress.
Saudi Arabia - Conversion by a Muslim to another religion is punishable by death. Bibles are illegal. Churches are illegal.
Yemen - Bans proselytizing by non-Muslims and forbids conversions. The Government does not allow the building of new non-Muslim places of worship.
Kuwait - Registration and licensing of religious groups. Members of religions not sanctioned in the Koran may not build places of worship. Prohibits organized religious education for religions other than Islam.
Egypt - Islam is the official state religion and primary source of legislation. Accordingly, religious practices that conflict with Islamic law are prohibited. Muslims may face legal problems if they convert to another faith. Requires non-Muslims to obtain what is now a presidential decree to build a place of worship.
Algeria - The law prohibits public assembly for purposes of practicing a faith other than Islam. Non-Islamic proselytizing is illegal, and the Government restricts the importation of non-Islamic literature for distribution.
Jordan - Has the death penalty for any Muslim selling land to a Jew.
Sudan - Conversion by a Muslim to another religion is punishable by death.
Pakistan - Conversion by a Muslim to another religion is punishable by death. Bans proselytizing by non-Muslims. Christians regularly put in prison for charges of blasphemy. Islam is the state religion, and in a court of law the testimony of a Christian carries less weight than that of a Muslim. Section 295(c) of the Penal Code calls for a death sentence for anyone who defiles the name of the Prophet Muhammad and requires the testimony of four Muslims for a conviction. This fosters an environment in which Muslims can feel free to use intimidation and violence against religious minorities for personal gain.
Qatar - Islamic instruction is compulsory in public schools. The government regulates the publication, importation, and distribution of non-Islamic religious literature. The government continues to prohibit proselytizing of Muslims by non-Muslims.
Malaysia - Under Malaysian law, any convert to Christianity must apply to a shariah (Muslim law) court to legally renounce Islam. Many Christians prefer to remain silent converts rather than take their battle to the shariah courts, where apostasy or conversion out of Islam is punishable by whipping, fines, imprisonment and--in the most extreme application--death.
The Maldives - In the island paradise visited by tens of thousands of tourists each year, Christianity is simply not tolerated. While local Christians said to number around 300 out of a total population of 300,000 do get together to worship, they do so at the risk of imprisonment or worse if discovered by the Muslim authorities. Bibles are banned, and tourists can be arrested for trying to bring them into the country.
It is those policies that will destroy their culture IMO.
As oil becomes no longer needed, they will be starving and thanking their false god Allah I guess.
But...but...I heard that islam is a religion of peace.
And all it's followers are so tolerant of others that if you dare question them they threaten, curse, riot, bomb, cut off heads, take down buildings, shoot schoolchildren, and all sorts of other peaceful activities that we don't hear about from MSM.
cair lawsuit in 3....2....1....
Don't let the terrorist-enabling-hamas-front-group thugs intimidate ya. The vast majority of Americans are with ya!
I almost missed this. This is great! Bookmarking.
"It's time we recognized the nature of the conflict. It's total war and we are all involved. Nobody on our side is exempted because of age, gender, or handicap. The Islamofacists have stolen childhood from the world." [FReeper Retief]
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Paleologus - as quoted by Pope Benedict XVI
<< It is those policies that will destroy their culture IMO. >>
And, unless we totally defeat them, ours.
lol! I haven't seen you so excited in a long time. :)
Well, it's just really, really neat seeing someone start a project like that. I hope we (FR) can help them out as events evolve.
Excellent - it's about time!
