>>>Prior to recess, children are to be restrained with the duct tape to ensure they do not do anything dangerous like walking. Place the pillows strategically in case a student should fall over...>>>

What recess? My fourth and fifth grader isn't allowed to play on the playground equipment that we had a huge fundraiser for last year because of the stricter guidelines for passing (ie: Bush's fault for the CRCT testing requirements).

I told them to never expect me to participate in ANY fundraiser until they let my children play on the equipment I helped to purchase.

They would really scream about playing splits with our pocket knives when I was in elementary school.

Thanks for the memory of splits with my trusty 3 blade Barlow! I had forgotten all about that.

My favorite game in 7th & 8th grade was Buck Buck. I must admit I had more fun and freedom in private schools than public. .

Our Buck Buck was a modified version with almost anything goes rules as we smashed our forearms into our school mates backs upon landing. Nun's never came over to bust our chops.

This is playground fun!

Buck Buck...

HA! What a thought. My 9-yr-old daughter and I got a big kick out of your post. Thankfully my 5-year-old son is out of the room, wouldn't want to give him any ideas, now would we? :)

I can't find it... but I am sure some resourceful freeper can... I think that there is some research that shows recess and physical activity actually improves the learning process for elementary age children.

Your parents didn't sue the school district every time you took a football to the face or fell down.

It's more about litigation avoidance than school safety. My son goes to a Catholic grade school and plays a fairly violent game of flag football every day. (They knock the kid down in order to get the flag). The teachers kind of turn a blind eye as long as no one fights, but they know we won't sue if he comes home with a boo-boo either.

Add to the list: Ban recess. Ban two snacks. Ban having your own supplies. Ban wearing a cross. Ban prayer. Ban parents from finding out what's going on. Heck, just ban the children and be done with it. Of course, some of the children were pre-banned before they ever GOT to school.

Don't Ban: teaching kids that a homosexual lifestyle is natural and good.

"Well, they still have the seesaws and swings, right?"

I think they're getting rid of seesaws at most schools. Swing sets are still pretty common but those will probably go too eventually.

I don't blame the school as much as I blame the pro-lawsuit mentality of many Americans. One could get sued for the slightest of offenses now days.

The real issue: teachers can not tolerate any competition.

VOUCHERS!

Our lunchtime recess favorite at my elementary school was "War". Most of the boys in school would congregate in roughly equal groups on opposite sides lower baseball field. Then about ten minutes before class resumed the sides would charge each other, tackle and wrestle the other side to the ground. Amazingly nobody was killed, paralized, or had their self-esteem permannetly damaged. But of course there were fewer lawyers back then, and there were actually men involved in running the schools. Today K-6 schools are almost exclusively the provice of women.

Blame it on the lawyers. Or, if you like, the evil axis of lawyers and liberals, working hand in hand.

ping of course if the repubs would have passed comprehensive tort reform during the whole contract with America back in the 90s this school would still have tag and touch football
