Tibetans shot at by Chinese reach India

KATHMANDU - Some 41 Tibetan refugees fired on by Chinese border guards last month as they entered Nepal have been flown to India, an official from the Tibetan Reception Centre in Kathmandu said Saturday.

"The 41 Tibetans refugees who arrived in Kathmandu left for New Delhi on Friday for security reasons," said an official at the Tibetan Reception Centre.

The official did not elaborate.

The Tibetans arrived in Kathmandu earlier this month after Chinese soldiers opened fire on a group of about 70 people, including children, women, monks and nuns, trying to flee into Nepal on September 30.

A nun was killed in the incident according to witnesses and foreign Tibetan groups.

The remaining Tibetans in the group of 70 were believed to have been detained by Chinese border guards. China confirmed the incident took place and said that the border troops were forced to act in self-defense after soldiers found the group trying to escape Tibet and were attacked.

Numerous foreign climbers witnessed the incident including a Romanian climber who filmed footage of a group of unarmed Tibetans being fired on as they tried to run away.

A monk who was part of the group told AFP that the Chinese border guards fired "indiscriminately" at the fleeing Tibetans.

Since 1989 Nepal's official policy has been that Tibetan refugees cannot stay in the country.

Sandwiched between regional giants India and China, Nepal pursues a cautious policy over the issue of people fleeing Chinese-controlled Tibet, directly to the north. The office of the representative of Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, was closed in Nepal's capital in 2005, but refugees continue to be transited through the Himalayan nation, often to the northern hill station of Dharamsala, where the Dalai Lama leads the Tibetan government-in-exile.

Tibetan refugees began arriving in Nepal in 1959 after the Dalai Lama fled Lhasa following an abortive uprising against Chinese rule. A year later Communist troops entered Tibet.

The Dalai Lama has in recent years urged greater autonomy from Beijing for his homeland.

Around 2,500 people a year make an often dangerous trip across the Himalayas into Nepal and India.

International rights groups accuse the Chinese of ruling Tibet through repression and military intimidation.

LOL You have a good start on a new "Ultimate Flame" there. Good job! I think familyops is right that these guys are most likely Euro-trash not real Chinese. mass7 for sure. Some kid who is afraid to go outside at night because the Muslim kids would use him as a torch to light up a city bus so he stays inside and plays with his momma's computer.

I think Mongolia has the historical right to incorporate and rule the majority of China. Let's start a petition and take our claim to the UN on behalf of Mongolia.

Well, Good job Gengis,

It looks like the Chi Com has added the words, " Hello Kitty" to his vocabulary!

Totalitarianism produces twisted minds and revisionists historians who are removed from reality. His postings provided an excellent preview on what we can expect after the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

The Pacific will become a harrowing place. And like many, I worry about the widening of the Panama Canal by ChiCom Corporations , in order to handle heavy military vessels.

Perhaps by then we will have lofted our space based defence systems, you know, those 30 foot concrete rods which can impact the earth targets at something like Mach 9.[Grin!]

Me love you long time.

Actually mass7 is a SE Asian of Chinese origin. I have noticed a disturbing trend of growing Chinese racial nationalism among the Chinese population in SE Asia, especially Indonesia and Malaysia. Its a direct result of discrimination by the Muslim majorities in these countries and sporadic events of ethnic conflict in these countries targeted against the Chinese.

However it is disturbing because these people, living outside China still fantasize a day when Chinese hegemony over all of Asia will be realised and they can "pay-back" the ethnic Malays and Indonesians for what they have had to go through. If you look at some of mass7's recent comments in other threads, he proposes the annexation of North Korea and Taiwan to China as provinces. They really are dreaming of Chinese hegemony in Asia. Very disturbing. America needs to back India, Japan and Israel up in more ways for us all to ally against a Chicom-Islamo-fascist take over of Asia.

It reminds me of how Nazi Germany managed to find common cause with Fascist Italy during WW-II. Islam is Nazi Germany, China is Fascist Italy. It looks more like this every day.

I'll defer to your greater world experience ie mass7. Your ananysis sounds accurate too. I hope the U.S. does, and I think we will, provide the support you recommend. I'm doing all I can to keep the Marxists out of power here. Commies suck.

I don't think the U.S. would have any trouble closing the Panama Canal with the munitions we possess now do you? Just clobber one of those heavy vessels in a lock and passage would be kaput.
