Did Kerry slip? I don't think so.

Perhaps this has been stated elsewhere, and if so I apologize for rehashing it here, but I thought this questioned deserved a separate discussion.

Did John F. Kerry, Vietnam veteran, actually slip up today? Obviously this is the excuse being sold by the Kerry people, the DNC, and the MSM. And I see some FReepers are buying into it, and a lot of the Conservative media, blogs, etc. are going along with it.

I do not buy it. If Kerry and his crew slipped, it was in believing the dubiously French-looking one could get away with saying something like this. I think he underestimated the efficiency and scope of the "new media". It's a perfectly rational statement for a liberal when viewed in its context: he's speaking to college kids at a California Democrat's rally. Back in the day politicians were protected inside such a bubble; especially in California, especially on a college campus, and especially at a Democrat rally.

"Evidence" of the "slip" could easily have been whipped up in a few minutes - just skip to the page in the "Angelides rally speech" file (assuming this "speech" were truly prepared ahead of time), adjust the copy, hit save, and print it out. Who would know? I would imagine even the FBI would have a difficult time proving the speech copy were altered since:
1. The speech, if it preexisted, and if it were printed out ahead of time, was most likely printed from a portable printer connected to a Kerry aide's laptop.
2. There are some very easy tricks to remove traces of a file being modified, at least in Windows.

Like network news, like MSM daily newspapers, like MSM magazines, they have all underestimated the "new media" again. I think this may be the last time anyone underestimates the "new media" and its power - for better or worse. And this raises another issue: eventually when the Democrats seize power again in Washington they will put their foot down on this terribly pesky "new media" just like they're trying to put their foot down on talk-radio.

I do not think it's wise to give Kerry the benefit of the doubt here. In fact, given the possibilities, I think it's dangerous. This was no slip, but an awfully painful wake-up call for liberal Democrats.

If he truly slipped, then why did he not apologize to the troops for his major gaffe?

It was intentional...he voiced what he's thought all along: kerry hates the troops. Nuff said.

He attempted to do what Liberals always do--appeal to The Poor, the poor, dumb lumpenproletariat who REALLY know that The Man is shipping their poor, dumb asses overseas to die for oil. Speaking truth to power, man, very Black Panthers. It's a neauseating, patronizing act--preying on people LIBERALS perceive as dumb by saying "Them evil Republicans think that just because you're uneducated that you're stupid, but WE are going to protect you from them!" The irony being that the libs hope the intended audience is dumb enough to buy their malarkey.

He meant exactly what he said. He knew where he was and that they would let him get away with saying what he did. It is a shame--not really--that there was someone there who reported what he said.

He may have slipped, but it was a Freudian slip.

That jackass leprechaun O'Reilly was saying he "knows" that Kerry didn't mean to demean the troops. How could he "know" that?

Here is my email to O'Reilly. It's probably TOO pithy:

If it were the first time, I'd agree with you that John Kerry didn't intend to demean our troops, but he has a pattern of doing this, such as when he charged that our troops were going house to house in the middle of the night to murder women and children, not to mention his vicious slanders against our troops in Vietnam.

Where there's smoke, there's fire, Bill.

I don't buy it either.

And even if it WAS intended to be a joke about the President, it's STILL an insult to our Troops.

The only way it could have been intended to be funny would be because, with Kerry's 30+ years of denigrating our Military, testifying that they commit war crimes, saying that they shouldn't be terrorizing women and children in Iraq, we would naturally EXPECT him to be about to once again denigrate our Troops. But NO! Ha ha! He's slamming the President instead? By implying that the President is as dumb as he thinks our Troops are?

Oh, Please...

His "intended Joke" can only be "funny" because it is a twist on the tired and disproved DNC talking point that our troops are foolish and predominantly less educated than average.

Well, if that's the story he wants to stick to then it seems to me he meant to insult not only our President, but everyone who voted for him, and our Troops as well.

Maybe we can get some of our Democrat Representatives to explain... ;-)

His official post statement statement in which he attacks Republicans is making him look even worse. He is trying to sound tough, but he comes across as an A-hole.

You are right - Kerry simply did what he has been doing for the past 35 years - he disparaged our troops. It is no secret that Kerry has complete disdain and contempt for the military, as evidenced by the outrageous things has consistently accused them of doing. His most recent insult to our troops was mild compared to what he has said before. This is a pattern of behavior by Kerry, and it's nothing new.

"He absolutely MEANT to call our troops idiots."

Yes he did and I think he thinks they are idiots because just about the whole military and their families are in 100% support of GWB and we know how sKerry hates GWB.

That was no slip-up. That slander towards our military came 'from the heart'.

Kerry has been demeaning, insulting and accusing our military of being war criminals since Vietnam (for over 30 years now).

His pathetic, tortured, phoney, and transparent efforts to now claim it was a 'botched attempt at humor'--is not only patronizing, but it is also even MORE insulting to anyone who could see his sincerity in the actual video of his original slander. How stupid does he think the military is? Oooops, never mind that question.

Kerry has been spewing hate, anger, venom, and disdain towards the military and its efforts since he accused our troops of being war criminals in Vietnam.

Some things never change.

Rush was talking about this today .. and said that there was a dem moritorium on saying anything about the Iraq war .. and he offered Reid, Pelosi, Kennedy, and the other usual suspects who have been unusually quiet - almost like being in hiding.

It's also been noted in the media that several of the hotly contested races show the dems moving to the right .. and then here was Kerry not only talking about Iraq .. but belittling our soldiers and exposing the dems true position regarding the military.

Aside from that - I see on FNC tonight that Kerry's appts for tomorrow have been cancelled. This has to mean the dems have shut him down because they don't want the public to know they agree with Kerry's statement.

BUT IT'S TOO LATE!! Woe to any candidate who tries to suppress the military vote.
