Well, Sen. John Kerry certainly did his best to offer an October surprise for Republicans at the last minute.
On Monday, Kerry was in California, stumping for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides. At an event at Pasadena City College intended to highlight Democratic education policies, Kerry told students, "You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well." But, he added, "If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."
The Internet lit up like a pinball machine. Sen. John McCain called on Kerry to apologize. Shortly thereafter the grand whirligig of the GOP message machine started churning, with denunciatory press releases from the usual suspects. White House Press Secretary Tony Snow asked the press to ask Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Jim Webb of Virginia - a veteran and the father of a soldier in Iraq - if he agreed with Kerry's comments. In response, Kerry issued a splenetic statement: "I'm not going to be lectured by a stuffed-suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium. ... It disgusts me that these Republican hacks, who have never worn the uniform of our country, lie and distort so blatantly and carelessly about those who have. ... Bottom line, these Republicans want to debate straw men because they're afraid to debate real men."
This raises an interesting question:
Can a typed diatribe still be spittle-flecked?

It's one of two things. Either they are trying to figure out a way to get some of their bills paid and keep people on staff, or it's a Hillary thing to eliminate one of her competators. I haven't figured it out yet.
Funny!!
After all, Kerry is an awful politician, a human toothache
with the charisma of a 19th-century Oxford Latin tutor.
Real men don't denigrate our military!
Right on both points.
The hitter in question is Jonah Goldberg, who appears to have been reprinted in the SLTrib.
Just clarifying, no diss intended.
John, these hacks have never given aid and comfort to our enemies in 3 wars either. (Wars = Vietnam, Cold War, and Iraq.)
I think Goldberg is a stringer for the Trib. Not my job to know. I just post what I read there.
THE NEW dim TALKING POINT IS THAT PRESIDENT BUSH NEVER SERVED.
PRESIDENT BUSH FLEW FIGHTER JETS AND dims THREW FITS, LIED, FORGED AND LOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LLS
Kerry is on Imus, now.
I believe he is one of the contributing editors at National Review, actually. His work is syndicated and it looks like the Trib is one of the buyers.
Could be he is tired of Obama having the spot light for so long.
There is one thing I like about John Kerry, he is a gift that just keeps on giveing.
Thanks Kerry, we the Republican Party needed your help and, you have came through for us.---- sarc!!!!!!! HEhehehehehehe!!
Someone will have to explain to me why the San Antonio Express, a newspaper in the heart of military country would print the article on Page 3 and use Jennifer Lovens AP column as the article.
Kerry is suffering from a terminal need to be relevent. Maybe Teddy will offer to take him for a ride in his car.
How would Hillary get him to willingly commit political suicide? Of course, most of us have noticed that he has been at it since he went to Vietnam. DBM has deliberately built his delusions of granduer since he became their poster boy in a Senate hearing room with a young still slim tedkennedy.
Imus won't have the guts to challenge him will he?
No. Imus is Kerry's cover on the morning shows.
Am watching Tony Snow on C-Span, right now.
Not only that, he flew a fighter that wasn't particularly forgiving for the pilot. You can't be a dumbass and live through 300 hours in an F-102.
