Looks to me Lieberman is just trying to position himself for a win. He can't very well show his cards at this point in the game.

He did say that the experince has been "enlightening." That's another way is that of saying that he looks at things differently. If he wins, he owes his party nothing.

Yep. In his position he may have quite a long list of people he's pissed at but he needs to get reelected for another 6 year term first.

I've heard some stories (from Liz, I think) of how he was pretty duplicitous to get elected in the first place so who knows what he may be thinking.

I think an Independent Sen. Lieberman could turn against the forced positions his dependency on the Dems has forced him into -- such as pretending to support abortion on demand and many pro-gay positions, when we all know his religious convictions tell him otherwise. I am thinking abot how LBJ, once he became President, pushed HARD for civil rights because, as he said, he "didn't have them to worry about anymore". The 'them' referred to the racist southern Dems he was formerly beholden to. If Lieberman won't switch outright, he could at least be counted on to vote the 'right' way on Iraq, as well as many social issues.

He's not very smart. He disses the Republicans BEFORE the election. I knew he would do this, though. Connetticutt Republicans, there ya go. Even if the Repub candidate doesn't have a prayer, maybe you all ought to vote for him.

Bet on it!

LIEberman is a hypocrite of the first order! He would have turned in other Jews, to the SS, if it meant that HE would get special treatment!

That would be a REALLY dumb move on the GOP's part!

The night he lost to Lamont and announced that he was going to run as an indie, he said that he was an "independent"-DEMOCRAT and would ALWAYS caucus with the Dems! He is "suffering" from nothing at all. The GOPers who think that he is a "good guy" are the ones wearing earplugs and blinders.

Joe is a Liberal first and foremost.

He is steadfastly loyal to the Liberal agenda and that means Democrats, if Republicans become a liberal party somehow Joe would support them too. Too him, principles and character does'nt count only Liberal agenda does.

Interestingly people here are willing to give Joe a pass while being hard on Chafee who is loyal to Republicans and helps them in blocking Judicial filibusters.

Conn. has a GOP governor who has done a pretty good job, all things considered and she will win reelection tomorrow.

I suspect in this case you mean "preferential treatment," since in the Nazi lexicon, "special treatment" (sonderbehandlung) meant immediate execution in the gas chambers.

It's because Sean Hannity and other blithering idiots have been pushing Joe down Conservatives throats since he lost the primary and many here, who gush over him, either never knew ( GOD only knows WHY that might be ) or have forgotten what this louse has done and said in the past. *shrugs*

Then YOU are blind and hard of hearing!

Besides which, there is another I in the Senate, so when LIEberman wins, it will make TWO Indies, with the Dems having NO chance of getting to 50. And they won't anyway, since they are NOT going to win in Maryland, Tenn., nor Missouri!

rooting for him just because his opponent has the moonbat imprimatur doesn't make him any less despicable.

No, but he *is* substantially less despicable than his D opponent.

You are completely and utterly 100% WRONG!

You appear to have absolutely NO idea who and what LIEberman is.

There are more Independents and GOPers in Conn. than there are Dems. Joe has only somewhat sided with the GOPers/the president on the WOT. He is thoroughly Dem through and through and will NOT change; not now, not EVER!

And he is SO unprincipled, that the head Rabbis of Orthodox Jewry, threw him out, when he was running for Veep! And no, he has NOT been reinstated.

Oh gee, I didn't know that.

Yes, I meant preferential treatment.

Thank you for correcting and enlightening me. :-)
