Kerry's fate could hinge on a big Democratic win
Boston Globe ^ | November 7, 2006 | Peter S. Canellos,

Posted on 11/07/2006 8:24:02 AM PST by george76

As national Democrats hang bunting and prepare for what they hope will be a joyous victory celebration in Washington tonight, John F. Kerry will be back in Massachusetts, quietly standing behind his state's gubernatorial nominee.

Kerry's treks around the country were supposed to help erase bad memories of 2004 -- convincing Democrats that Kerry was a dogged worker and belonged among the party's top contenders for 2008.

Instead, the campaign ended with the senator on the sidelines, grounded like a high-schooler caught misbehaving in class during the week before the prom.

His "botched joke" ...gave the Republicans ammunition at a time when they were running out of it.

He then either misjudged the situation or let his anger get the better of him: By choosing to lash out at the Republican scandal machine rather than quietly apologize, he guaranteed that the story would stay in the news.

Now, Kerry has to hope that the Democrats get a big enough victory to wash away any recriminations.

But if the election returns fail to meet the party's skyhigh expectations, Kerry would be among the biggest goats...

His decision to lead the libuster against Supreme Court Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. earlier this year had won him liberal support.

the longstanding perception that Kerry has done a poor job of building a staff.

Some big-name Democrats, including Hillary Clinton and Edward M. Kennedy, are known for their ability to attract the party's top writers and thinkers; Kerry is not.

And the fact that Kerry veered from the text in a way that made a bad speech worse is no surprise, either; in 2004, reporters with advance copies of Kerry's speeches would chuckle over how he added unnecessary words and stepped on his applause lines.

I think their party symbol applies much better.

Doesn't matter which way the election turns out today. He is, was and always will be a donkey. Or more precisely, the north-bound end of a south-bound Clydesdale (that's a Horse's a$$, for any DUmmies that may be reading this comment).

What a lame-brained effort already to rehabilitate Kerry!

Ain't that the truth.

You have to wonder if Canellos owes Kerry money, or something. Or, maybe, he owes Teresa...

The voters of Mass. will simply re-elect him foot-in-mouth and all - over and over again.

Too right. They send a murderer to Washington every 6 years. They also send an admitted pedophile back there for two more Congressional terms. A transgression as simple as speaking one's pea-brain mind is good for at least a few more terms.

He then either misjudged the situation or let his anger get the better of him...

He misjudged royally. I mean, let's face it: being a liberal Democrat politician in Massachusetts is about as mentally challenging a job as being Rosie O'Donnell's dietitian ("Forget the salad - just give me the donuts!"). As a result, John Fn's political acumen never has to be put to the test, except when he ventures outside the Bay State. This suits his Boston Brahman work ethic, but letting him loose has proved poisonous for the Democrats.

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall listening to the phone conversation between Harry Reid and the operatives who let Kerry go on this most recent Magical Mystery Tour. Reid: "Get that idiot back in the Senate Office building ASAP!!!"

If the dems win it proves that they share Jon Carry's opinion of the media.

If that's the case, then let's get the traitor to run for President. Love to see him out there again, he's got foot in mouth syndrome down to a science.

"Right...typical liberal...blame the staff. " - Why? Absolutely correct assessment. Better staff is needed, and then a better inflatable doll of a senator. With proper manipulation it could turn out OK.

libuster? They do have editors don't they?

Nor spell-checkers, apparently.

But I do like the new word - libuster - a filibuster attempted by a blowhard elistist liberal senator from a Swiss ski vacation.

His fate is sealed, which is kind of too bad... WE NEED HIM !

See my tagline. Like the Terminator, he'll be back - except that John Connor doesn't have to reprogram this one to blow up his own. He does it instinctively.

>>>>Kerry's fate could hinge on a big Democratic win<<<

The Boston Globe is in a state of denial, or stupidity.

John Kerry unhinged his own fate last week.

"kerry" as such does not even exist- he is an empty suit, or an inflatable doll if you wish - a figurehead, a fiction. Thus, "kerry" [for the lack of a better word, and also due to the language convention, it has to be referred to as "kerry" or "he", in quotation marks] is indeed a creature of "his" handlers - be they called staff or by any other name.
