From: Melanie Morgan - Move America Forward

Friends,

THANK YOU FOR YOUR
SERVICE SECRETARY RUMSFELD!

While Move America Forward does not back specific candidates or political parties in election campaigns, I can't help but notice the number of emails we've received from people who are deeply saddened by yesterday's election results, as well as today's news concerning Donald Rumsfeld's forced resignation.

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld is a decent and honorable man who has served his country with distinction.  In a time of war when others could not even acknowledge the threat America faced, Rumsfeld lead this nation's military with an intense focus and an unflinching commitment to achieve victory.

We at Move America Forward are distressed to see him go. There are so many people who are quick to criticize his actions as Secretary of Defense, but we wonder if anyone else would have - or could have done a better job in fighting an unprecedented threat, and approached the task with such clarity and conviction.

Some of you have said that in light of these recent events that you are now so frustrated and depressed that you are throwing in the towel when it comes to activism to support our troops and the war against terrorism.

I'm writing to all of you today to send this clear message:

DON'T YOU DARE GIVE UP!

Don't you dare give up on the men and women who are half a world away, risking injury or death to defend this nation from those who wish us harm.

Don't you dare give up on the cause of freedom - for the people of the United States and those who stand allied with us against the threat of Islamofascism.

Don't you dare give up and hand the Islamic radicals the very thing they want:  resignation and apathy from the American people.

Elections will come and go, but we cannot allow the outcome to alter our determination to fight for what we believe in - and stand up against those who would target our nation, our values and our liberties.  Surrender to the forces of terrorism, fear, bloodshed and violence is not an option.

At the darkest hour of World War II, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill looked into the eyes of his people and saw that many of them were wondering if defeat was at hand.  Churchill felt that the only way they would be defeated is if they gave up and allowed the forces of tyranny to prevail.

I am reminded of his famous words to his nation and feel that they fit quite well for what all of us should be thinking today:

We shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end... We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender."

Our delegation meets with survivors of
Saddam Hussein's "Anfal" genocide campaign
outside one of Saddam's concentration camps.

As I write this message to you, a delegation from Move America Forward is in northern Iraq. They've met with our troops stationed there. They've met with the people of Iraq who survived Saddam Hussein's genocide campaign.

If you think you can't muster the motivation to press on because of the results of one election cycle, then imagine how these people felt when they were sent to Saddam's concentration camps as part of his "Anfal" genocide campaign.

We've promised our troops in Iraq that we would always have their back and would not give up on them.  We presented them with pro-troop banners proclaiming our unwavering support for them.  This is no time to start reneging on that promise.

We met with U.S. Troops in Iraq.
We can't abandon them or their mission.

Gold Star Father Joseph Williams with U.S. Troops.
Joseph's son, Michael, died in the war against terrorism,
Yet he still supports the men and women of the United
States Military and their missions!

The United States of America did not start this war with Islamic terrorists.  For far too long we tried to ignore the attacks against our nation, our people and our interests.  We ignored the "jihad" declared against us by terrorist groups for far too long, but no longer will we look away from the threat facing America.

We will not surrender.  We will not cut and run.  We will not allow the enemy of freedom & liberty to prevail.

But we need the support of every person we can get to win the war for hearts and minds.

Now, more than ever, Move America Forward needs you to stand with us.

At a time when it might seem easiest to give up, we instead must press on with even greater conviction and motivation.

Will you stand with us?

I look forward to hearing from you!

And we'll win?

That was questionable even before.

Now? God knows.

And God help US.

"However, once I got to reviewing it I realized what a smart move this seems to have been.

I think Rummy left because he didn't want to suffer the obnoxious questions of the midgets. Rummy is a giant and it makes me sick to realize that a noble man's efforts have been ruined by shallow politicians. "

Yes, the Democrats were going to use Rummy as a foil to criticize every nitpicking decision.

Bush retort -
Dems, you won; clean slate, Rummy guy you hate is gone.
Put in Gates.

NOW WHAT WILL YOU DO IN IRAQ?

Good move. The mission is more important than the man and this helps keep us with a forward-looking agenda.

Thanks for ping & for thread Syncro... just getting back to FR after a lot going on here on home-front, but join the others in sadness in seeing a great man leave this position.

There are a lot of Monday morning quarterbacks who think he should have done this or that.. but man, he served his president and our country with honor & served us well. Did he mess up? maybe..probably..but is there a human that does not?

We need to find the fine line between undermining criticism & helpful support..I am not sure what that is myself but those who shout the loudest sometimes seem to just be the "TEAR DOWN" type of people. quick to point out problems but never having suggestions for improvement.

God Bless America.. may we survive this next few years to be strong again & be worthy to lead again.

I am SO going to miss Rummy.... He is one of my very favorite people in Washington

Me, too; Mine, too. The active duty men and women I know believe and love him too. They do not think the President threw Rummy "under the bus" -- they know the American voter and the Democrat Party threw Rummy "under the bus".
