I don't think we need any more faux apologies that claim to be sincere.
Hugh is right. My biggest gripe with McCain is his participation in the radicalization of the nomination process.
I think he and the gang of 14 did it to undercut Bill Frist, who had presidential aspirations of his own and would've been a serious contender for 2008 had he been able to shepard the constitutional option through the Senate.
Proving once again, as if we needed it, that to McCain, the most important thing is...McCain.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." -Manuel II Paleologus
I don't think McCain will be able to overcome this problem. To the republican base, he put himself before, what is most sacred, the constitution.
And to have him explaining on the cable news election eve coverage the republican recipe for victory that was never implemented was infuriating.
I would like to know which GOP primary McCain has ever won outside of Arizona? You show me a primary where only Republicans can vote and I'll show you another state which will be labeled as 'ultra-conservative' by the media when it denies them the McCain Ascendency.
Not to speak of the fact that this two-faced jackass would institute the fairness doctrine against talk radio and impede internet sites like FRee Republic so fast our heads would swim. bttt
I think he won some of the early Presidential primaries in 2000.
I read that too fast and didn't see the "don't" at first and was about to type a polite reply on why I disagreed. Good thing I double checked.
If McCain isn't toast yet, he should be. He could care less about the Constitution. McCain/Feingold is unconstitutional, the SCOTUS opinion is incorrect and needs to be overturned. McCain said on Imus that he cares more about clean government than free speech, and as a result we get neither.
Too little too late.
I agree. The "issue" was too important.
Not only was the issue too important, but his apology would not be sincere. He would apologize only to rehabilitate himself with conservatives, not because he actually feels remorse for what he did. Narcissistic personalities aren't capable of remorse.
McCain has shown us repeatedly that he is a domestic enemy of the Constitution. He must never be President.
You are correct on all counts, which is why I expect to see the MSM carry tons of water for him from here until he's nominated by our mushy middle.
Hubby works with a lot of Dems. They're positively giddy about McCain getting the nomination. They know he'll be the easiest Republican, hands down, for Hillary to beat in '08.
Which is why we need to get out the conservative vote in the early primaries. McCain needs to be taken out quickly so a conservative candidate can emerge. Any decent conservative candidate should be able to beat Hillary.
I almost expect McCain to go third party.
Ask Mike DeWine if he would join the "Gang" again if he had it to do over.
Yeah... Hugh, Senator McCain would have to "take back" about 90% of what he has stood for or been the leader of for the past 6 years... I don't think he could do that. If we had 5-4 orginalists Supreme Court judges, McCain-Feingold would be "gone-zo!" To McLame, that would be unacceptable.
I think he won some of the early Presidential primaries in 2000.
I wouldn't be surprised. He knows that age and health wise, this is his last chance. And it's all about McCain.
What an unlucky irony if Hillary were to get in office the same way that Bill did--because a third party candidate split the vote.
