More people polled would probably consider voting for a Muslim candidate. Wouldn't want to appear intolerant now.

We don't have the machinery in place to steal elections like JFK did either.

I hope the 53% of the evangelicals who won't even consider Romney enjoy Hillary and Bubba redux then. When they complain about moral decay and liberalism they should be told to STFU.

Not quite. He made the best of a bad situation in liberal Massachusetts.

Yeah, and how about the politicians who ascribe to some of the outlandish fairy tales of other faiths? It's okay to vote for people who believe in JC as the savior though, right?

Tell me Red, how much do you know about Mormonism. After the MSM gets through, you will probably be far more informed.

Perhaps you'd better do some research before forming your opinion. Start here http://www.christiandiscussionforums.org/v/forumdisplay.php?f=29

Agreed. If Mitt is the candidate in '08, I don't want to hear any whining from anyone who didn't vote for him because of his religion.

Don't vote for him...and say hello to President Clinton, government controlled healthcare and more Ruth Buzzi Ginsburgs on the Supreme Court.

More importantly, he's a RINO.

Good grief....The thought of Bill Clinton schleping around the White House again, with nothing to do but fondle the female help, sickens me beyond description. One needs to forget their precious "values" and do whatever is necessary to make sure the White House doesn't fall back into the hands of these flaming narcissists.

Romney, McCain and Giuliani are all social liberals.

How can Romney be considered a social liberal when he's been married to the same woman for 37 years, vetoed the stem cell bill, says he is pro-life and opposes gay marriage? Perhaps he could be seen as socially moderate in some people's eyes, but he is no social liberal. Even these guys don't think so, see Here

I really wish to high heaven we could expundge the term "RINO" from our vocabulary. It's such an over-used term, it's meaningless.

Thank you! There is a high level of stupidity on this thread, people willing to condemn Romney for [gasp!] being from Massachusetts! I'm not sure he's my first choice, but he will certainly get my vote if he wins the nomination.

"Anyone who would not vote for Romney, simply because he is a Mormon, is an idiot."

Agree! Unfortunately, there are lots of idiots out there, as was just recently proven. I'll overlook the few problems I have with him right now (gun control & the Mass. social medicine issue) and hope that he changes directions once elected.

His morals are 5000% higher than Hillary's, Rudy's & McPain's combined. He's been married to the same woman for 37 years (who is afflicted with MS) and with no known scandals. I'm sure the MSM is working overtime to find some type of discretionary activities from his past!

Tell me Red, how much do you know about Mormonism.

As I said Color, his religion is irrelevant to me. His views on fiscal conservatism, the border and the war on terror take precedence. Even as a Catholic, I'd rather elect a principled and moral Mormon than an unprincipled CINO (Catholic in name only) who supports partial birth abortion.

In the end, I'll support whichever candidate is left standing to oppose Hillary.

And Rudy and McPain are what.....conservatives? LOL

Say hello to President Hillary and her "first lady" (rapist), Bubba Clinton.

Agreed.

But it should really be reported as 53% have an UNFAVORABLE
view of a mormon candidate. And would not vote for one.

M2C,
The simple answer to your question is...

... while you would vote for a mitt, huge numbers will not and votes among evangelicals will be suppressed. For that reason alone, it is not wise.

"I agree with the hold your nose and vote theory. But purists won't."

And since no amount of explaining and spining Mormonism is going to change their mind, we would be wise to elect someone else in the primaries.

Romney is the only viable candidate in my opinion. He's far from perfect, but he is far better than Gulliani and McVain.

Plus, he'll still be here after the rapture! /sarc
