First Daughter Barbara (Bush) Robbed in Argentina
abc news ^ | 11-21-06 | abc

Posted on 11/21/2006 3:56:24 PM PST by dogbyte12

First Daughter Barbara Bush had her purse and cell phone stolen as she had dinner in a restaurant in Buenos Aires, Argentina, even though she was being guarded by a detail of Secret Service agents, according to law enforcement reports made available to ABC News.

It was not the only mishap on the two-week trip to Argentina by Barbara (right) and her twin sister Jenna (left).

A Secret Service agent on the advance detail got into an "altercation" with someone after a night out and was badly beaten, according to the law enforcement reports. The Secret Service said today the incident was an attempted mugging that occurred while the agent was on his own time. The agent is doing fine.

The purse snatching took place on Barbara's first night in town while she was dining in the picturesque San Telmo neighborhood. According to the reports, the Secret Service agents failed to notice the incident.

The Secret Service would not comment on the purse snatching, and the First Lady’s office said they would not comment on any personal trip made by the daughters. There have been recent reports, however, that Jenna Bush has been living and working in Panama as an intern for UNICEF.

Here's a link to a Washington Post article that substantiates the breakdown of public safety in Argentina.

You mean substantiates the state of things four years ago, just months after Argentina's currency crash. Things have changed considerably since then.

You might want to keep up to date before you go posting ancient articles as "substantiating" an alleged current state of affairs.

I have had 3 cameras stolen from right beside me in this manner but never my purse. In France, Spain and Virginia. I am very cautious about pick pockets especially when I travel.

The army would never be so stupid as to send Barbara and Jenna Bush to Iraq. They'd make a tempting target for Al Qaeda and would end up endangering their whole unit in the process. There's a few Congressmen in the reserves whose units were called up, but ended up not serving in Iraq because the army deemed it too dangerous. And this is just a Congressman, who is probably unknown outside his district, not the President's daughters.

I'd bet she didn't have anything with personal information in her purse and her cell phone was locked.

I agree, I purchased one of those purses from travelsmith where you wear it across the body and it was slash proof while traveling in London and Rome recently.

I cannot believe the secretservice didn't see this happening.

Hmmmm.... any connection to all the recent mishaps?

Voodoo Practitioner Tries to Jinx Bush
Nov 16 10:44 AM US/Eastern

A renowned black magic practitioner performed a voodoo ritual Thursday to jinx President George W. Bush and his entourage while he was on a brief visit to Indonesia.

Ki Gendeng Pamungkas slit the throat of a goat, a small snake and stabbed a black crow in the chest, stirred their blood with spice and broccoli before drank the "potion" and smeared some on his face.

"I don't hate Americans, but I don't like Bush," said Pamungkas, who believed the ritual would succeed as, "the devil is with me today."

He said the jinx would sent spirits to posses Secret Service personnel guarding Bush and left them in a trance, leading them into falsely thinking the President was under attack, thus eventually causing chaos in Bogor Presidential Palace, where the American leader was scheduled to meet President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Monday.

Indonesia the world's most populous Muslim country, however many still practicing animist rituals, including black magic, that predate Islam's arrival in the archipelago.

"I am doing voodoo, because other ritual would not work," he told reporters after he conducted the gory ritual about 1 kilometers from the palace.

I watched a gang of pick pockets in action a Mardi Gras in New Orleans one a few years ago. I didn't realize what they were actually doing until people started yelling that they had been robbed. We were standing at the back of a crowd on the side of the street watching a MG parade, when a group of about 5 or 6 people all dressed in black started elbowing their way through the crowd. When they made it to the front of the crowd they dashed across the street through the parade. It was then when people in the crowd started missing their wallets and purses. The perps were out of sight and through the crowds on the other side of the street.

Where did I say it was a current state of affairs? The article posted was in reference to an article I posted about the 2001 currency crash in Argentina and the resulting breakdown of law enforcement.

Take a chill pill.

Both twins are in Argentina, though no one will say why...

Well, they got a birtday coming up on the 25th, maybe that; but, you would think they would be back in the USA for tomorrow.

When we were stationed in Buenos Aires in the late 1980s, my kids would go out around 2200 and not show up until around 0400. Neither of them had any problems.

In May 1988 our house was burgled while we were all asleep upstairs. They stole my brand new Bass-Weejuns, a VCR (but not the transformer), my daughter's flute, a colleague's watch and all the cash from my wallet. It's a terrible feeling to come down the stairs and find you've been violated. Buenos Aires' finest came by to investigate, in NOVEMBER 1988!!

Someone's head is going to roll for this ....with every terrorist in the world gunning for an American trophy....this detail didn't notice a simple purse snatching right under their noses.

I didn't watch the Left Wing much but I remember a storyline about terrorists trying to kidnap the Presidential Daughter for blackmail purposes. This is unacceptable.
