Vanity: THE GOP nominee for '08; His name is Duncan Hunter
bushfamfan | 11/24/06 | bushfamfan

I just want to have a thread to discuss House Rep. Duncan Hunter who is going to be one of our GOP nominees. Seems as if a lot of people on FR are complaining about our choices for 2008 when this great man is going to be in the race as well. I just think he needs to get some coverage and wanted to start this thread.

He is the man conservatives should get behind and I think he deserves his own thread to remind us that we do have a great candidate this time if we'd only realize it.

'Cuz if we didn't it would have been Dukakis-Clinton-Gore-Clinton...

And Rudy, McCain, etc. would still lose California, NY, Mass., PA, etc. Why don't you think about the fact you could leave a lot of disinterested conservatives at home when you are going to need EVERY vote then?? And you are going to need to keep the 'red' states! I don't honestly think you realize Osama Bin Laden could himself run for the Demonrats(as he would) in those states and still win over the GOP.

Their ticket is Hillary/Obama. It's a done deal. Key was when Mark Warner Governor of Virginia decided to drop out.

Gore is setting up on Hillary's left; but unless she makes a Kerry-like mistake; it's gonna be hers to lose.

"I like Hunter, but even a lot of Freepers know nothing about him, let alone the "unwashed masses."

Two years is an eternity in politics.

I could tolerate Rudy but we need a conservative house and senate to offset Rudy's liberal leanings.

That is the key. I hope Rudy is smart enough to realize that the whole country does not want nationalized health care, gun control, gay marriage, taxpayer subsidized abortion on demand, etc. and he would act accordingly. Hillary on the other hand would see the Presidency as an opportunity to force this and more on everyone. In any case, a conservative house and senate is vitally important.

Sad that you look at it that way. Not even giving the best candidate the chance!! I guess we should be happy to just throw away the Reagan principles even when we'd FINALLY have a candidate that would be able to make a strong campaign for those principles and be an effective speaker for them? He's a fighter. I've seen him and it's sad you want to say 'no chance' and settle for what you think the media will give a chance.

I think that the last man to go from the House to the Presidency was James Garfield

The last man to go from House to the Presidency was Gerald Ford, but it was under different circumstances than being elected. With our new House and Senate, this kind of opportunity might repeat itself.

There you go, talking about merit again. It's not about merit, it's about who can get through the nomination process with the least amount of bagage to carry through the election.

Hunter may be a new Reagan; the media will take him out if that's the case. Look at what they did to George Allen. He will never be elected to anything again because of "macacagate". The MSM is still very, very powerful.

Why do you think McCain spends ALL his time on Sunday talk shows or getting ready for Sunday talk shows?

Same with Lindsay Graham.

The days when a Wendel Wilkie can come out of nowhere are long over. Hunter has no chance. Get real.

Bull, squared and cubed.

There is no such thing as a "done-deal". Frankly, I've heard the same thing about Evan Bayh. The Dems want him because he appeals to the more conservative core of their party. The US is barely ready for the first woman president, let alone the first black VP. Together, that may be too much for the country to handle at this point.

And Obama would overshadow Hillary on the ballot. Something they certainly do not want.

Bayh has been way up on several polls as well. Don't overlook him as an option.

Well, I think the "get along talk" is because they realize they're gonna look like fools if they can't persuade us to follow their agenda for Congress.

The mainstream media will now portray conservatives as obstructionists now - the same media that WOULD NOT portray Democrats as obstructionists over the last 2 years.

You make it sound like the choice has already been made - I don't think so

If we don't nominate one of the chosen ones, the MSM will punish whoever we pick to no end, just like they did with Dan Quayle.

Sad you think that way. Rudy, McCain, WHOEVER the GOP nominates has NO chance in NY, PA, CA, etc. And you are going to have to get EVERY vote in those 'red' states and can you assure that Rudy or McCain, etc. will keep those votes with the conservatives??

Yes, she has her share of issues, but in her case (and as far as the MSM is concerned) it's all in the past and she's already been vetted. The MSM will harp nonstop on any messy divorces, weird religions or cancer. So far as I know, Hillary is tainted by none of those. She and her husband are rock star gods to the MSM and a large swath of the voting public.

I love Newt, but messy divorces; Romney looks like a movie star but comes from Massachusetts and is a Mormon; Giuliani is terrific in some ways, but is too liberal in others and has the cancer and messy divorce problem; McCain is really disliked by a lot of Republicans and also has the cancer and messy divorce problem.

If a goof like Carter and a lech like Clinton can come from nowhere and become president, a good Republican should be able come to the forefront in the next 18 months.

LOL no he is not the chicken guy LOL. But he was the first republican gov in GA since reconstruction and the first to be re-elected.

I'm proud that Georgia is an even redder state.

Yeah, and Hillary Clintoon's 8 yrs. as Senator from a chosen state are what should be required?? Rudy and McCain are looking good to you?? Just sad. Hunter is also from California, a far left state where the GOP has no chance. But can you assure Rudy or McCain have ANY chance in those 'blue' states and can make sure conservatives go out and vote in the 'red' states when we will need every vote?? Hunter should be the candidate. Sadly, if this is the view of the GOP voters, count on a bad 2008 and conservatism being six feet under. It isn't ever going to have another chance and you don't even want to give it one.

McCain in MHO being a senator who has ticked off the right at every turn just isn't much of a choice. Name a senator who made a good Prez.
Rudy can't change his stripes over gun control or abortions. If he did he'd be labeled a phoney along with no foreign affairs experience, unless one of his wives was foreign that I'm not aware of. (sarc)

You're wrong. The liberals are scared to death that blacks are beginning to stray (2% swing, last election) from the plantation. Obama's gotta be on the ticket.

The Dem pimp media will play Hillary/Obama as REVOLUTIONARY. They'll be shown as a "return" to America's roots. A women and a black will lead America out of the morass Bush and the neocons took us into...blah, blah, blah, you know the process.

And it will probably work. If McLame is the nominee it will definately work; because after they nominate him the MSM will do a Howard Dean. Remember how they turned on Dean in 2004?

They turned in a week. Completely buried him. Can see this coming as plain as day.

First thing the Dems must do is PUT THE CHRISTIANS TO SLEEP. It's happening.
