Howie Carr Live thread.
Howie's column today: You don't have to turn over your license to get pancakes at the Quincy IHOP anymore.

Radio changes: country to 102.5, classical to 99.5 as of noon today...and Al Franken's off Prog. Talk 1200/1430 but they're keeping the rest of their dreadful lineup. Am guessing their sister stations like Kiss 108 and Jam'n 94.5 make enough money to power the electric bills for their AM also-rans...
Howie Carr should have his own food show on the Food Network sometime in the future. They can schedule Howie's show so that it's on either before or after "Good Eats". Not that I see this really happening, but Howie likes talking about food and eating food so much that this seems like a missed opportunity for him. I wish that Howie Carr would have his own T.V. show/segments again at some point down the road.
Remember Gene Burns? He has a dining/restaurant show on KGO in San Fran (where he does his nightly talk show, too) He used
to do that at WRKO, too.
As for the country/classical do-si-do:
And here we go.
end of Ricochet song pops up on 102.5
Country Music...102.5 FM
99.5: :"Thanks for moving with us to our new home on the radio"
102.5: "A newer more powerful signal"
99.5: Hallelujah Chorus. "WCRB, Lowell/Boston"
102.5: Country 102.5 jingle then Rascal Flats cover of "Life is A Highway" from the movie Cars.
On WKLB.com: "99.5" morphs to "102.5". "Same great music, brand new frequency"
This then morphs into their newly redesigned site (though one ad for a Martina McBride concert
still says "Country 99.5 presents..."
WCRB's site just says "new site coming soon" but there is a listen now link.
I miss Gene Burns, Norm Nathan, David Brudnoy, and Jerry Williams. There have been a lot of decent talk radio hosts from the New England area. Even the top "conservative chicks" are from Connecticut.
Good old Gene. In spite of his mobility problems, his "dining around" show, which he does on Saturday mornings here in EssEff, does a LOT of remotes in the spring and summer when the various art, wine and food festivals are going on.
Been working the festival in my hometown now for 5 years, and Gene is a mortal lock to do our show every year. Even though we make every effort to accommodate him, we are in a fairly hilly park in town, and one can imagine how hard it is to get around. I don't think I've ever heard him complain to us or his producer about it.
Grace, humility, a good judge of wine, and fairly libertarian for such a moonbat radio station as KGO! (Note small "l", no relation to the political "party" that can't seem to poll more than 1 or 2% even in an uncontested election.)
Yes, and RIP Norm, David, and Jerry; as for Gene he does
7-10 pm PACIFIC on KGO in San Francisco. I don't know if they streamcast but someone gave me about 25 min. of his show recently: same as he ever was!
You're lucky to have him in SF!
Mobility problems--does he have to use a wheelchair? Not sure if he lost a leg or something (does he have diabetes?)
By the way for those who are curious to hear the switchover of the country and classical stations: each file is about 55 MB
(play on your comp. or dub to your mp3/Ipod)...each file about an hour long. The second one is still being uploaded but it will be there eventually:
102.5, classical to country

I honestly don't know. I've think seen him in a wheelchair at other events. I'm usually too busy with other things when he arrives or leaves to see how he maneuvers in and out at our event.
If you've ever volunteered to work at a festival, especially on the setup committee, the couple hours before the opening are hell on wheels, an apt description of my on my golf cart during that period :)
Given his food and wine proclivities, diabetes would be the LAST thing he'd need to have.
Globe has been working on a story since July: Romney hired
firm which has illegal alien landscapers.
"Aw geez"...(amazing but true: Globe called them illegal immigrants not the more PC undocumented workers!)
http://www.boston.com/news/local/politics/candidates/articles/2006/12/01/illegal_immigrants_toiled_for_governor/
Howie brings up a good point: they're "illegal immigrants"
since they're working for a Republican governor. OTHERWISE
they'd be undocumenteds!
I have really mixed feeling on making employers do the government's job . . . well, maybe not all that mixed. But to expect a client of the employer to do the government's job is over the top. My sister goes to a manicure place owned and staffed by Asians -- should she demand to see their green cards?
On the other hand, Romney must be really clean if this is the best they could come up with in five months. (BTW, Howie said the owner of the firm says he always asked for proof that his workers were legal.)
Yup!
LOL! Howie at his best.
bump for later...

They do have a live streaming audio. Go here:

BTW, Gene's show is 7-10 Pacific, Mon-Fri except Thursday.
