ermany condemned a planned Iranian conference on the Holocaust and summoned Iran's charge d'affaires to the Foreign Ministry, saying Friday that attempts to question the Nazis' murder of Jews were "shocking and unacceptable."
The conference, scheduled for Sunday and Monday, was organized by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has called the systematic killing of some 6 million Jews a "myth" and "exaggerated." Some 67 foreign researchers from 30 countries are scheduled to attend the two-day meeting.
"We condemn all past and future attempts of anyone who gives a platform to those who relativize or question the Holocaust," Foreign Ministry spokesman Jens Ploetner said.
This is the man that the geniuses want us to negotiate/talk to about Iraq and its future? I struggle between the thought that we should talk to our enemy so we can control him better, and the thought that talking to an insane sociopath theocrat is futile.
I'm not sure what you're talking about. That was a pretty forceful statement by the foreign minister of Germany, of all places.
I don't get it either! If anyone would know a Holocaust went on....it would be the Germans.....LOL!
I certainly concur that it's outrageous that Iran holds this view, and somehow has attracted idiots from 30 countries to attend. I wouldn't be surprised if the US sent an idiot (not from the government, of course).
I'd like to see a list of the idiots and the countries involved in this bit of revisionist thinking.
This would be funny and absurd, if it wasn't tragic. The german minister actually saying "..errrr...we...did kill all of those people you know..." and Ahmedingnigng saying "..oh no you didn't"
What is this world coming to
!!!!!
I spent 10 of my 20 years in the Army stationed in Germany. NEVER IN MY ENTIRE TIME THERE, did I ever, EVER, meet anyone who did not claim that Hitler and his "bunch of gangsters" as one landlord called them, was never a Nazi, did not know a Nazi, never met one, never saw one. So, apparently there actually never were any Nazi's in Germany. That must have been made up also.
Jews did not see it coming with Hitler. They are in this country and blind to it also. Some in Israel are now also. So, when Abduhla comes calling, they need not whine, because they as we can, could see that it was going to happen again, yet they, like dimocrats, turned a blind eye.
Are Mel and his dad attending?
Well as another poster said: I would love to see the list of idiots!
Instead of verbal platitudes, the Germans should be pledging some Panzer units to help eliminate the lunatic regime which runs Iran.
[This is the man that the geniuses want us to negotiate/talk to about Iraq and its future? I struggle between the thought that we should talk to our enemy so we can control him better, and the thought that talking to an insane sociopath theocrat is futile.]
Let's not forget that James Baker is an anti-Semite who blames the problems on the middle east on Israel. He thinks that if Israel would only give up their uppity stance of keeping the Golan Heights, a strategic point from which Syria and Palestine could launch massive rocket attacks on Israel in relative safety, to themselves, that all of the middle east problems would magically dissappear. So, it's not surprising that Mr. Baker would wish to confere with Iran and aks for their help in 'stabalizing' (translation= anihilating Israel) the middle east and Iraq. http://sacredscoop.com
No one seems to understand what a sociopath is running Iran. If they did, we wouldn't be debating Iraq, we'd be figuring out a way to get this guy out of Tehran and into Guantanamo ASAP. Israel is in grave danger, and the world just wants more concessions, and wants us to talk to this monster.
Having said that, we cannot possibly invade Iran, and we shouldn't.
Munich was hoping to get picked instead.
"Why do my Jew hating German comrads defy me? "
Better change the menu of your meeting, Moohmound Ahmadinejad, Table it as "is Islam really a religon?" See if your "intellectuals" can figure that out.
It's just mind boggling, isn't it?
F-ing unbelievable.
["Jews did not see it coming with Hitler."]
So explain to me why Albert Einstein left Germany for the US in 1933 and Sigmund Freud left Austria in 1938 for England?...["if they didn't see it."]...so what am I missing?
The statement is not valid on two levels.
Before stating my objection to the statement let me make clear that I'm not denigrating the horrors of the Holocaust nor am I oblivious to the evil motives of the Iranians in conducting this seminar.
The first level has to do with the misdirection in the statement, the Germans do not just condemn anyone who provides a platform to Holocaust deniers, they actually jail Holocaust deniers. Under our Anglo-Saxon tradition (now sadly abandoned in Britain) there can be no place for the government to censor political ideas merely because they are repugnant if they do not otherwise constitute a clear and present danger. As heinous as the 1939-1945 Holocaust was, our understandable reaction to its hideousness does not warrant sacrificing our individual liberties to potentially dangerous governments to memorialize it or to emotionally expiate our own passive sins.
On the second level, the Foreign Ministry spokesman broadens the already dangerous government power which Political Correctness has unwisely invested in the government in the reaction to the horrors of the Holocaust. He equates questioning the Holocaust with denying the Holocaust. That's bad enough, but then he goes on to equate "relativize (ing)" with questioning the Holocaust. This is an extremely dangerous power to invest in a government which in the context of modern-day Germany where to deny the Holocaust is a crime, because it is only a small step to jailing those who draw historical parallels with other holocausts.
Should be a crime to argue that the murders of Mao Tse-tung before and during the Cultural Revolution are worse because they greatly exceeded in number those killed by Hitler's regime? Should be a crime to argue that the Turkish genocide against the Armenians was as least as wicked in intent as Hitler's murder of the Jews because it was aimed at a racial and religious class? Should be a crime to deplore Stalin's mass murder of the Ukrainian Kulaks which probably succeeded in number the Jews murdered by Hitler? Should it be a crime to express the view that the abortion of 40 million babies in America alone constitutes a greater crime than the extermination of 6 million Jews?
In today's PC World is necessary to finish this post with the same disclaimer with which it began:
Before stating my objection to the statement let me make clear that I'm not denigrating the horrors of the Holocaust nor am I oblivious to the evil motives of the Iranians in conducting this seminar.
