VB will fill in for Howie today. Note: "The Celtics play a rare weekday matinee in Atlanta today as they meet the Hawks for a 2 p.m. start on MLK day." Which means dribble dribble on Howie's flagship station WRKO. You can try WCRN AM 830 in Worcester (hopefully game will be over by 5 pm or so), other Howie affiliates, or Howie's site which I assume will carry his show and not the Celtics!
By the way I think Howie is on WKNE AM 1290 Keene NH for one more week; replacement starts next Mon.
Howie's column from yesterday. Also in thread is news of another arrest for Spare Change Guy
I think WIOD in Miami broadcasts Rush.
thank you! I am streaming Rush now.
That's good. I won't miss VB while I'm listening to the gloat-fest on WEEI. I can listen to the post game gloating for a couple of days, at least.
This time they managed to schedule the game for 2 pm not 3 pm (like last MLKing Day)...for Rush try
WPRO 630 Prov RI
WXTK 95.1 Cape Cod
WGIR 610 Manchester NH (also 930 Rochester NH, 1540 on NH
seacoast)
No Max today...'RKO should hopefully be back w the show by 5
when Celtics coverage over. WCRNradio.com and WCRN 830
do have the show...
VB plans to cover a bit of Patriots talk; the Missouri
abduction story, etc.
poll so far
FALL OUT
Hollywood and FOX-TV are set to up the ante with the new season of 24 by taking it radioactive this time -- "Time to wake the country up!" a top FOX source told the DRUDGE REPORT over the weekend. "I do not think there has ever been TV done like this, the viewer is going to be completely riveted." They are planning to explode a nuke. The White claims that such story lines cross over the line of civic responsibility and commerce.
Do you agree with the White House that 24's nuke story line is civicaly irresponsible?
Yes 28%
No 72%
Still no word on Bachelor. No prob on letting people know about WCRN; Howie himself has mentioned it...
Yes WRKO may not be happy about Howie doing that promo for
each hour starts off with Dana Hersey saying "...on the
WRKO Howie Carr radio network". And when WCRN starts
airing the Sox, you'll hear them say "this is the WRKO
Boston Red Sox radio network" so maybe those mentions
make up for it a bit.
And, Howie doing a promo for Finneran's show? THAT is
something I'm sure he'd hate to do, if ordered!
oops, that should say:
"Yes WRKO may not be happy about Howie doing that promo BUT each hour starts off with Dana Hersey saying..."
Finneran doing an hour with VB later...??
What is that idiot 'RKO trying to do? Go out of business?
unfortunately, they're locked in to do Celtics games under their contract--and the Sox will arrive soon (except weekday afternoons & Wed. nights when they'll be on WEEI)
Do NOT be surprised (we've mentioned it on the radio boards)
if Howie is somehow moved to 2-6 pm or maybe 2-6:30 so he
can lead into the Red Sox and not get his last hour/half hr pre-empted. (Though someone said that stations that carry Rush have to carry all 3 hours...)
IF they did so, they could do local stuff in the 2-3 pm hour
and then more national/regional stuff 3-6 pm.
years ago WRKO did four hour blocks:
6-10 am Clapprood and Whitley
10 am-2 pm Gene Burns
2-6 pm Jerry Williams
In '94 when WEEI moved their sports talk from 590 to 850,
the AM 850 afternoon lineup then moved to WRKO: Rush
and then Howie.
As long as the Red Sox have a huge fanbase here, WRKO
will not go out of business. The Sox, and Howie, will
carry the station and shows heard earlier might be an afterthought. Though I've heard they're putting a lot of
money into the Finneran contract. (but even if HIS show
tanks, the Sox will keep their ratings high)
Here's the thread I was tellin you about
March (pre-season) through October playoffs...
I love baseball/Red Sox myself. My two main reasons for listening to WRKO at this point are Howie & the Sox.
Oh and now that WCRN's signal is starting to fade up here
on the North Shore, I check out 'RKO--the Celts game is
off and Howie's show with VB is ON!
Don't worry there will not be too many other pre-emptions
like this...Last yr WCRN was not aboard yet so Howie
fans had to try and pick up WEIM from Fitchburg when
there was a ML King day game on.
