A Crest Hill man and his daughter admitted in court Monday that they starved their dog to death in plea deals that sent the father to prison and led to probation for the young woman.
Mark Obidowicz, 44, pleaded guilty to aggravated animal cruelty, a felony that carried a maximum 3-year sentence. He was sentenced to a year in prison. Nicole Obidowicz, 19, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor animal cruelty. She was sentenced to 24 months of conditional discharge, a type of probation, during which she cannot own an animal. She also was ordered to perform 100 hours of community service.
Kira, their 1-year-old Siberian husky, weighed 17.3 pounds when it died Oct. 22, a tenth of a pound less than it weighed at four months, when the father and daughter bought the dog, authorities said.

some of us struggle to keep our precious pets alive & other creeps ....well, are CREEPS
It's only a matter of time before people like this start torturing other people. They need to be locked up.
Why?
:(

Oh, are we into profiling?
I've got no problem with the death penalty for them, "thin the herd".
Actually, I thought a year was a bit harsh. This was a first offense.
I don't know why everyone is so upset about this. I have learned a few things over the years, and perhaps I can share that knowlege with everyone.
Starvation is a good way to go. It's painless. Just ask Terri Schiavo.
Killing animals is good. Just ask PETA.
Perhaps if this family was a member of PETA, they would not only have avoided jail time but maybe even earned a medal.

i came in here to post exactly that..
It is ironic that starving a dog to death gets someone a year in prison, but one judge can starve a human being to death and nothing happens...
Now if this creep were to shove a vaccum tube in the back of the puppy's skull, he might have been a hero.
Anybody who treats and animal like that, especially a dog, should be taken out and severely horsewhipped.
Of all the animals God gave us, dogs are our helpmates in our work and our infirmities, they save people, they do police work, they are our faithful companions, and a comfort when we're down. They have a special connection and affinity for us, and that should be cherished and respected.
These people are lower than scum. The sentences were too light. There is nothing more shameful than mistreating a dog, except mistreating the young or the elderly. And how dare this scumbag father show his daughter this is appropriate conduct.
Actually, I thought a year was a bit harsh. This was a first offense.........
Yeah, and I bet he won't do it again!
I knew it would only be a matter of time before certain FReepers would arrive on this thread to somehow attempt to draw comparisons to human abortion. This discussion is about the crime of animal abuse and hopefully how it can be reduced. There are plenty of other threads that deal directly with the topic of abortion.

Even more puzzling is why did this father/daughter team even bother to purchase this innocent dog in the first place? If they obtained the animal with the intention of killing it, they really have severe mental problems. They need to be punished harshly.

OK now is a good time to ask all kind hearted freepers to support your local rescue groups, especially the ones that take all breeds. These people are often financed only through adoption fees and have large out of pocket expenses. Please give whatever you can, money for vet care, food, bedding, cat litter, often office supplies. Please put it where your heart is.
What you do to the least of these, you do unto me.
An excellent reminder.
It is odd, but if you're ever watched Animal Cops on Animal Planet with any regularity you would see that it happens frequently, especially in the Detroit episodes.
Not harsh enough, people like this need to be severely punished
