Critics charge that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is abusing the perks of power by asking for a jumbo military jet with sleeping accommodations for her flights across the country.

After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Pentagon agreed to provide the speaker, who is second in the line of presidential succession, with a military plane for added security during trips back home.

Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, an Illinois Republican, flew in a small commuter-sized Air Force jet.

Pelosi wants a larger aircraft that can fly to her San Francisco district without stopping to refuel.

Some sources are claiming that Pelosi demanded access to the C-32, which seats 45 and has a stateroom for the primary passenger, a conference facility, an entertainment system and three convertible beds.

Had I known this sooner I would have questioned Hastert use as well.

Fine for a temporary basis after an attack but 6 years is a bit contradictory that air travel is no longer safe for the head Congresscritter but OK for the masses.

I'm curious how often she goes back to S.F. Some congresscritters go home every Thursday night and go back to D.C. every Monday. It would seem unreasonable to tie up one of only four of these if that's what she does. OTOH, occasional usage is probably OK.

I wish I could be a fly on the wall in Steny Hoyer's Office. She is almost single handedly making the Rats look really bad. I would not be surprised if there are scared Rats looking to 2008, and realizing that they could be totally out in the cold again if they do not Plan a takeover of Pelosi's Power. Hoyer would be the one that could turn things around, even though he is very partisan, he is not tone deaf and he does not have delusions of grandeur, and does not have that huge Superiority Complex like Pelosi. What you listed simply describes what a particular military aircraft has. I have not seen where she asked for those specific requirements. Point me to a document or a quote where she asked for those things. Maybe she did but I haven't seen it.

Downthread, there was a reference to the C-40.

The air force only has 2 of those, one at Andrews, one in Hawaii. The C-40B is the model with the advanced communications suite she requires. They also come equipped with a bedroom and business class seating (and two galleys).It's a 737 which can seat from 26 to 32 passengers.

The air guard has a couple of C-40C aircraft, but they don't have the passenger communications facilities she has demanded.

So she is either demanding the only available C-40B flying bedroom, or one of the 4 C-32 flying bedrooms described a couple of places above.

Of course not. But we don't know she asked for the C-32 based on this report. Since we know there are only a few planes available to be used for her it could mean her non-stop requirement steered others to say that she would need the C-32 to meet her requirement. Again - I have not seen what her specific requirements are other than the non-stop one. For example, where does it say she specifically "demanded passenger communications facilities"? Too much loose inference going on here without specific facts.
