Giuliani Strikes a Note With California GOP Testing the Waters, Former N.Y. Mayor Garners 4 Ovations

SACRAMENTO, Feb. 10 -- Rudolph W. Giuliani came west to learn whether his brand of Republican politics has a chance among party members significantly more conservative than himself. By the time he had received a fourth standing ovation Saturday at the California Republican Party convention, the answer seemed clear.

Equating the U.S. fight against terrorism with the Civil War and the Cold War, Giuliani told about 750 of his party's faithful that failure in Iraq would turn that country into a "massive headquarters for terrorism."

"Having had a job where I didn't have any choice but to make a decision," the former mayor of New York said, "prepares you as best you can be prepared to be the president of the United States."

Haven;t you been paying attention to their posts? They're supposedly "CONSERVATIVES", NOT Republicans and they very much want the GOP to disintegrate and blow away. Of course, the kind of party and the kind of candidates that that party would put up, would NEVER win a single election, but they don't care about that.

Neither, obviously, do they want a president; most particularly one who governs by the laws of this land. No, NO, they want something akin to a genie/fairy godmother, who will instantly do exactly what they want, all by him/herself, with no regard to laws or the Constitution.

While he was the “Republican Mayor” of New York City he appointed more than 60 men and women to the Civil, Criminal, and Family Court benchs. In all of those judicial appointment only two were Republican.

All of his other judical appointments were either registered Liberals or registered Democrats. As the “Republican Mayor” he had appointment power over more than 70 full commissioners in more than 50 City agencies, yet at no time during his administration did REPUBLICANS account for more than 10% of those appointments.

He even appointed Chuck Schumers wife as the City’s Department of Transportation Commissioner.

Read my last post again, did I single out only one side?

This is a forum that has as one of its key tenets is the pursuit of advancing conservatism.. what I see the GOP doing is watering down their version of conservatism year after year.

So that should make conservatives eager to continue to be relegated to the back of the bus yet expected to continue to vote without question for who they are told to.

Again, I say look at California and what that approach has got us.. and then tell me why some here are to be trusted to be so right again,, even when they are going down the same old path away from that which they claim to so vigorously embrace? now what color is your kettle again?

The above quote is what you wrote on your home page. You seem to have changed your views dramatically since you first joined FR in 1999.

I already explained my decision on Rudy hundreds of times on dozens of Rudy threads, which continues to fall on deaf ears. Nobody here cares about Rudy's record, the lives saved from crime, the poor who became empowered to get a job, the businesses that returned to Manhattan, and the johns, pimps, and hos that were chased out of Times Square. Giuliani is pro-defense, he supports the troops 100%, he is pro-limited government, and pro-tax cuts. Running the country is far different than running a city with entrenched liberalism. Abortion and the 20,000 gun control laws already preceded Rudy in which Congressional Republicans did nothing to stop, and states are passing gay marriage laws.

Rudy's statements are just that, statements. He implemented no new abortion laws and abortions declined during his tenure as Mayor. So he was friendly with gays. BFD, it's New York City.

Rudy has money, the executive record, and name recognition & I feel that's simply hard for the other candidates to overcome. You and others simply are not going to sway me or other Rudy supporters to stop supporting him. We have our reasons; you have your reasons to support your candidate. May the best candidate win and hopefully we can all come together to support the GOP nominee to defeat the vile Clinton or whoever wins the Rat nomination.

Obviously you can't answer the question in full. Not a partial answer. A full answer. You still haven't told me where I was wrong.

The reason you can't make a distinction between Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, Chuck Schumer, Joe Lieberman and Rudy Giuliani on the social issues, is because there is no distinction that can be made. All those liberals I mentioned are political stances held by the hardcore liberal, far leftwing extremists.

also, it will be interesting to the NYT editorial boad which is on record as having "enthusiastically endorsed" him for reelection and credited him with a "phenomenal turnaround" in the city's fortunes all of a sudden make him out to be the devil incarnate.
