Winter brings what? Cold weather and snow!

Very true. We get double digits below zero here and an average of 60 inches of mostly lake effect snow a winter and over 100 some years. Not quite Erie or Buffalo, but respectable. So it is nothing special to have a lot of snow.

The thing about this storm (about 18" here) was that is was quite a bit bigger area than usual and the winds were in the 40s at times over night, which packs it into some great drifts. Also, when they plow a road, the wind just fills it back in in a few minutes. A true blizzard over a huge, well-populated area. With the best to come yet for the northeast.

The snowplows put a 3-foot pile along our street and the winds filled it in so lots of folks on our street had 3 feet packed into their driveway aprons. Then the stuff from the plows turns rock hard.

If you were shoveling by hand (young people love to do that: I still do, but don't want to die yet) it was many hours before your car was going anywhere. Some whose cars were plowed in are still out working after dark. The snow gets packed under the car by the plows, too. Fun to get out. Good luck if you were looking for someone to plow your drive. They had huge waiting lists after they got done with their contract customers. Lots of $$ was made today. And lots of businesses were very shorthanded so I guess $$ was lost, too.

All in all, a fun day for us snow lovers! Not so much for the haters. I guess they like the great parts of the year around here, they are willing to 'suffer' through the winter.

Interesting web site - a little flaky though. I didn't go through any where near all the links but the ones I did were mostly pedestrian. The stuff I've been looking into has been more academic, computer modeling of tree ring and ice core data against mathematical derivations of the solar cycles, carbon isotopes vs. cosmic radiation levels and such. There is some very good science going on aside from the illogical global warming crowd who say: CO2 levels have risen, global temperature levels may have risen, man has added to the increase in CO2 levels; therefore man has caused global warming. Ipso Facto.

I was in college in the 70's... back then they were telling us of the coming Ice Age.
I thought we were supposed to be covered by a glacier here in North America by the year 2000.

Would that be Paul Douglas? Or the Ken Bar(bie)low from KARE 11?

I've heard Dave Dahl publicy rebuke global warming on Joe Soucheray's show in the past; I tend to rely on his forcasts for weather.
