Something I came across on the radio quite by accident, I don't know if any of you have done any digging on this but definately a check on this.
The REAL ID Act of 2005 is Division B of an act of the United States Congress entitled Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act for Defense, the Global War on Terror, and Tsunami Relief, 2005, Pub. L. No. 109-13, 119 Stat. 231 (May 11, 2005)[1]. This legislation is intended to deter terrorism by:
Establishing the national standards for state-issued driver's licenses and non-driver's identification cards;

"Paperien, bitte" (papers, please) not long ago was a keyword for the worst of government oppression - all movement & activity, even existence, hinged on one having the correct ID and permission papers on demand. It was a hallmark of Nazi Germany, Communist Russia, and a host of other oppressive governments.
Now the "driver's license" is being turned de-facto into the same thing. No longer being just to indicate one's license to drive a motor vehicle, it is becoming THE national ID. If you can't show your "driver's license" (to wit: National ID card), you will increasingly be unable to function in society far beyond anything having to do with vehicular transport.
It's not about licensing drivers anymore. It's about bureaucrats & police being able to pull all your data on demand, to the point that if you don't show one on demand they'll stick you in a box until one can be created.
So much for the 4th Amendment.

They're the ones that don't need papers.
But it don't have to be that way. Most Americans have been driving for years with their state license. That alone should be proof of citizenship. Credit check, High school records would add proof, and a phone call will get that for them. Now if they want DNA and blood type and whole body scan that's a different matter.
I hope this uniform code proposal will be able to stop california from its present practice of issuing drivers licenses to resident illegal aliens who present various and sundrie forms of very questionable "documentation". The present system allows aliens to evade prosecution and change identities faster than a Chamelion changes color

Yeah, this is total horse crap. States rights are almost non-existant now. Being a conservative, pro States Rights, this National ID is sickening.
Social Security wasn't intended to be a National ID, but it became one. Passports are considered a National ID, but somehow that's not good enough. I guess all of those were forged by illegals. Somehow, the new National ID won't be reproducable like it's predecessor's, LOL yeah right. PAPERS PLEASE!!!

Yup, they'll try it thru "terrorism" or food supplies, or medical services. The old freedom vs security argument. This is why we have a CONSTITUTION and GWB appointing guys like Roberts and Alito to the supreme court. It also helps to rid the federal bench of liberals.
