Will a blood clot force Cheney to step down?
This Is London ^ | 3-6-2007 | an idiot in London

Dick Cheney has been diagnosed with a blood clot in his left leg, leading to speculation he will be forced to resign as U.S. Vice-President.

The 66-year-old has a history of major health problems, including four heart attacks, and has undergone quadruple-bypass surgery.

He is a driving force in both the war in Iraq and the 'war on terror' and his resignation would be a huge loss to George Bush.

The vice-president is the leader of Washington's neo-conservatives and is believed to be a dominant influence on Mr Bush's military and foreign policies.

Well, why not. It would nicely round off the week if Cheney resigned. Ann Coulter shot herself in the foot, and most Freepers seem to think that it demonstrated her great marksmanship. Scooter Libby was convicted on four counts out of five, which will feed the very undead dinosaur media for months, and Bush "respects the verdict." Glad to hear it, Mr. President. CPAC proved that there is still no Republican presidential candidate for '08 that unites the base, and given the accelerated primary schedule, there is precious little time for one to appear. The Republican leadership seems utterly clueless about why they lost the last election, and seem ready to settle in for another long comfortable run in the minority.

Yes, sure, let Cheney resign, bring it on.

I'm certain the clot is a result of all the flying he did last week. Very common syndrome, even among people who do not have a history of coronary artery disease,

It is a little scary in this environment that you would need a majority in both houses if a vacancy occurred. You wanna talk a bout a coup d'état...

Well .. listen up everybody .. here's the REAL SCOOP:

Does anybody else recall .. during Nixon's first term, Spiro Agnew was removed from office - AND NIXON APPOINTED A REPLACEMENT. The Speaker of the House DID NOT TAKE THE V.P. POSITION.

THE CONSTITUTION SAYS in Amendment XXV, Section 2: "Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President SHALL NOMINATE A VICE PRESDIDENT WHO SHALL TAKE OFFICE upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress." That was ratified February 10, 1967.

While the democrats may be fooling themselves into believing they will be able to stop everybody the President nominates .. the President still has the power of the recess appointment .. and since he's used it before .. and the remainder of his term is so short .. why not do it again ..?? Even if the VP's recess appt would be over before Bush left office .. a few months wouldn't necessarily make that big a difference. The President can function without a VP - if he chooses.

THE ONLY WAY PELOSI CAN TAKE OFFICE IS IF BOTH BUSH AND CHENEY ARE REMOVED - AT THE SAME TIME. That is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN - no matter how much the left wishes it would happen or tries to make it happen.

I'M SICK OF THIS GARBAGE

I used to be very proud of the intelligence level on FR.

How do you think JimRob must feel?

Unfortunately, from my experience, dating back through Prodigy and Compuserve, this pattern seems to be typical of the "life-cycles" of online discussion sites.

.. the President still has the power of the recess appointment ..

I could easily see that being challenged in court. VP is quite different than some federal appeals judge or even a SCOTUS appointment, or so the democrats would argue. It should be a laughable argument, but in this day of rule by liberal judicial fiat, who the heck knows?

I didn't realize that Cheney had FOUR heart attacks :(

I am a little curious as to how you can acertain whether you have a blood clot, or does the doctor find it by luck. Just personal curiosity. I've been told that clots can be as small as a dime.

LOL, the words chuckle and Pelousey don't belong in the same sentence.

That don't give a rat's arse what anything in the Constitution says. It says the same thing about judges, IIRC.

Oh good grief...a "coup d'etat.."? Go learn some factual history and remove the tinfoil. And BTW, when Nixon had to replace Agnew, the political environment was worse than it is right now.

What's scary is the fact that so many people here are posting so much unmitigated tripe.

Well .. at this point I guess anything is possible.

The dems sure believe they run everything and nobody should even question anything they do. So I guess anything is possible in their book.

My brother recently had hip replacement surgery. He developed a lower leg blood clot. He is being treated with a blood thinner drug. The doctor told him he will be fine. I do not see why Cheney would have to quit.
