Mayans to 'purify' sacred site after Bush visit

Mayan leaders announced that priests will purify a sacred archaeological site to eliminate "bad spirits" after US President George W. Bush visits next week.

"That a person like (Bush), with the persecution of our migrant brothers in the United States, with the wars he has provoked, is going to walk in our sacred lands, is an offense for the Mayan people and their culture," Juan Tiney, the director of a national association of indigenous people and peasant farmers, said Thursday.

Bush's seven-day tour of Latin America includes a stopover beginning late Sunday in Guatemala. On Monday morning he is scheduled to visit the archaeological site Iximche on the high western plateau in a region of the Central American country populated mostly by Mayans.

Tiney said the "spirit guides of the Mayan community" decided it would be necessary to cleanse the sacred site of "bad spirits" after Bush's visit so that their ancestors could rest in peace. He also said the rites - which entail chanting and burning incense, herbs and candles - would prepare the site for the third summit of Latin American Indians March 26-30.

Didn't the Mayans do ritualistic sacrifices? Angry spirits of dead follow the Mayans naturally.

Yeah, unlike your ancients who sacrificed men, women and children tribal members to keep the cosmos in balance. Maybe we should start sacrificing illegals to help stop global warming.

Mayan Moonbat ping

Thanks for the ping, Jonny. Well at least the Mayans were among the original moonbats streching back a thouand or so years. Our modern-day Dim moonbats have no such excuse. ;-)

"Didn't Geico tick them off? :)"

So easy, even a Mayan could do it.

Does this purification ceremony also involve ripping the heart out of the losers of a ball game? I think that'll quell those spirits.

"will purify a sacred archaeological site to eliminate "bad spirits" "

They are going to sprinkle John Edward's hair clippings over the site?

We in San Jose, Kalifornicate should retaliate..

There is a statue of a steaming pile of dog shit in our city square -- that is supposed to represent some Mexican Indian god figure...
(YES- Taxpayer money went for a "pagan religious" statue)

I'll go downtown tomorrow and piss on it as a cleansing show of mutual respect for the offended "Mayans".....

Sempe Fi

Given that geography means nothing to you, I'll assume that history is also meaningless.

Good point, but get your yard and pool done first. A "mayan" is a terrible thing to waste.........

These must be Reform Temple Mayans because they did not do a human blood sacrifice.

This was not about cleansing, this was about attempting an insult.

It would be just as valid if they announced cootie vaccinations because GWBush has cooties.

Perhaps he can buy cootie setoffs from algore's corporation.

What a crock! The Mexicans (mestizos) persecute their native Indians- witness the uprisings by the Indians in Chiapas State.

GWB has not been using any bad spirits for quite a few decades. Thus their fears are misplaced.
