The correct title for this article is, "Trends In Emergency Medicaid Expenditures For Recent And Undocumented Immigrants."
The population is comprised of "undocumented' and legal immigrants (less than 5 years) living in North Carolina for the years 2001-2004. This population can receive Medicaid reimbursement only for "emergency" services. The data is for Medicaid reimbursement and does not include those medical services provided through other sources--primarily hospital emergency rooms and other care centers who do not attempt to collect from Medicaid.
About 48 thousand individuals received care under emergency Medicaid services. 99% of the population was "undocumented" and 93% were Hispanic. 95% were female and 89% in the 29-40 year old age group.
Emergency Medicaid Services represented less than one per cent of total Medicaid expenses. Over the four years such costs increased 28% but overall costs for Medicaid in this time frame increased 35%.
The actual, dollar cost for Emergency Medicaid Services in 2001 was 41.3 million and for 2005 it was 52.9 million.
Childbirth and its complications accounted for 82% of the Emergency Medicaid Service expenditures and 92% of all hospitalizations. Over the four years seniors and the disabled, however, had increased costs.
Political correctness requires the term "undocumented Immigrants" instead of "illegal aliens." Further, as usual, everyone besides "Hispanics" are classified as to race or ethnic/national origion but somehow we classify these folks by their language.
Here we are in overtaxed NC and.....
OUR TAX DOLLARS ARE AT WORK!!
ping for later
And now all those families are eligible for other welfare because they now have US Citizen children. 'Jackpot babies' as Terry Anderson calls them.
And this is North Carolina? Think of the costs along the border. North Carolinians should have listened to Californians a long time ago.

Those are some really damning statistics. So 99% of 48 thousand were illegal aliens.
sheesh
Thanks for the ping, AuntB...back atchya!
Justs gets more insane every day!
BTW, I read somewhere - don't know if it true - but to gain residence in the Bahamas, you have to buy a house worth half a million dollars. Something for us to consider.
I guess when it was only CA and a few other border states that had this problem thirty years ago it wasn't much of a a problem.
Still, that's only about $28.00/week per patient; just wait until they all start school.
I guess when it was only CA and a few other border states that had this problem thirty years ago it wasn't much of a problem, because the rest of the country gave them the finger.
Chickens--->Roost
NC ping.

Wow. It sounds like illegals aren't the big cost here, doesn't it? Our elected officials are taking us to the cleaners on behalf of shiftless citizens.
I can't speak for other parts of NC, but that is certainly the case in my county.
And the same with schools, I'm sure. The arrival of illegal alien families is a fairly new phenomenon, but the schools have been addicted to money and insulated from accountability and competition for a long, long, time.
Funny you should mention that - there was an article in today's paper on JUST that issue!
That's a good step, if it works.
Union Schools' finances are a mess, too. The eastern part of the county blames illegals, while the western part blames new subdivisions. Both positions are absurd; the system simply swallows money, no matter how much they get.
Only 48,000?
Judging from the numbers of illegal aliens undocumented immigrants swarming the streets of my county, most of those 48,000 must come from here.
95% were female???
