Getting ready to get out of here in June, going back home to Georgia. If I can make it, I will tho. We'll stay in touch and if I don't make this one, I damned sure will make the next one.

Semper Fi!

I was surprised that I didn't see any Kucinich for president signs at the rally.

Got to love it when the communists have unsuccessful street theater

LT Nichols and SSG Thul simply want Congress to support the Mission. He is presently in Baghdad. Please read his letter and see his video. He and SSG Thul deserve a read.

"From now SSG Dave Thul, MNARNG (he was promoted yesterday), SSG Thul is currently serving with the 34th Infantry Division, conducting convoy operations in Iraq. He has received the Combat Infantry Badge and was recently extended 125 days in support of surge operations. You can contact him at Dave at appealforcourage.org:

LT Nichols asked me to send you this short statement from the Appeal For Courage committee ( http://www.appealforcourage.org ) to be read at the Gathering of Eagles this weekend.

I also wanted to thank you for what you are doing. I had the honor of standing guard over the Traveling Wall when it came to Minnesota a few years ago. The thought that anyone could desecrate the symbol of our gratitude to the Vietnam Vets makes my blood boil.

Good luck and God bless,
SGT Dave Thul

Here is the statement:

40 years ago, a debate was raging much the same as the one today. A small but vocal group opposed to the war in Vietnam managed to convince the public that the war was unwinnable, that the cause was immoral, and that our troops were murderers. They shouted loud enough and long enough to force our politicians to concede and we pulled out of Vietnam too soon. A generation of Vietnam Veterans came home to a country that had forgotten the debt of gratitude that is owed to those who defend freedom. A country that had forgotten how to welcome home it’s veterans with open arms.

Today, another small but vocal group is trying to convince America that the war in Iraq is already lost, that the cause of freedom is not worth the fight, and that our troops are committing atrocities on a daily basis. But today, there is a difference. There are men and women at home who refuse to let history repeat itself. That same generation of Vietnam Veterans are standing up to ensure that all veterans are treated with the respect they have earned. They are drawing the line at those who say that desecrating our war memorials is an expression of free speech. And they are supporting our troops with their actions and not just their words.

Today over 1600 men and women in uniform have signed an Appeal to ask Congress to support our mission and let us stay in Iraq until the mission is complete. We are asking to stay in harm’s way because we know the importance of what we are doing, and the consequences of failure.

As we fight the battle in Iraq, you have continued to fight the battle at home. As we stand up for freedom and democracy overseas, you are standing guard for freedom and democracy at home. In Iraq today, as it was in Vietnam 40 years ago, we can not lose on the field of battle. You are ensuring that we do not lose it at home. Thank you for your continuing service, and together we will continue the fight for freedom.

SGT Dave Thul
LT Jason Nichols

A video of LT Jason Nichols talking about the appeal for courage, from Baghdad, is available here:

Please pray for these two young men as they prayed for you today. "

I have to say, it was AT LEAST a 2-1 ratio, possibly 3-1, OUR SIDE!! hanoi jane DID NOT show up, we scared her off. Too bad we couldn't do the same w/ cindy shithead. Anywho, it was a GREAT day, and EVERY single Vet I came across had such a look of pride. This is the type of homecoming they SHOULD have had, but were robbed of it. Well... NO MORE. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.

How's it feel to be a part of history? History!
Thanks for being there keeping us posted.

That pic at 1124 really tells the story, doesn't it?.
The enemies of our free republic are potty-mouthed, filthy scum.
Ingrates. They trample on all that is honorable and sacred.
Parasites. Low-lifes.
The more these sort of pics are shown, the fewer people will be sympathetic to these bottom-dwellers.
Unfortunately, the MSM won't show them.

I couldn't be happier about those looks of pride. And the homecoming, which some Vietnam vets truly felt for the first time yesterday. Something wonderful happened to the spirit of this Nation yesterday.

Thank you each and all for being there, and for reporting though tired, cold and muddy....:-)

Thanks for posting the link at M. Malkins blog. She linked to the WA post where they showed one picture of an angry marine as an example of the GOE's crowd. My take though is that he has a right to be angry since he was actually in Iraq and knows what is going on there, unlike the idiot pinkos.

Bumping your post. I have never, really and truly, ever been so awestruck. The line of flags, so many people everywhere I turned, the sense of honor, the sense of courage, and the sense of commitment that permeated the air was beyond description. This day was an answer to many years of prayer. I am not ashamed to admit I cried the first thirty minutes and several times after. I will

NEVER FORGET

being surrounded
by such an immense liberating freedom
by such magnificent warriors
in the midst of this 'battle'

...the wonder and awe of this day.

I am sorry my words can not do justice to the day. I am still struck dumb and blinded by tears.

I heard NPR's radio report as I drove home from the dinner. I was surprised that it about as even-handed as NPR could manage.

National Park Service, per Michelle Malkin's blog, is reporting our turnout as thirty thousand.

No. I'm not George.

My name is Nick.

If I were in Tokyo in '57 that would be quite a feat as I was born that year. ;)

Freema, I think you put it very eloquently. There really was no way for me to describe the sight of thousands of brave patriots--some of the finest our country has ever produced--gathering to fight an important battle on the homefront. I was honored to be among them.

I rode on one of two FULL buses from Pittsburgh crowded with (mostly) Vietnam veterans. Since I'm from a somewhat younger vintage (and I won't say just how much younger, LOL!), listening to their recollections and opinions gave me a truly different perspective on the war in which they fought. So much of what we know about the Vietnam war has come our way via the agenda-driven media, so it was eye-opening to hear them describe specific battles and situations in great detail and from a vantage point today's students will unfortunately never hear.

They also told of how they felt betrayed not only by the anti-war protesters here at home but sadly by the previous generation of veterans (WWII, Korea) who did not give them much support while they were fighting or when they returned. They had vowed then that it would NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN, and that is largely why they were assembled in DC yesterday.

Some also told me it was because they had "old scores to settle" with the anti-war protesters who had lied about them back in the '60s, and who were lying about the present conflict now. They reserved particular venom for Hanoi Jane. And let me tell you in no uncertain terms (without describing in detail the specific language they used) that they were definitely "not FONDA Jane." No sir.

I was honored that these brave men allowed me ride the bus with them.

(Sorry about the long ramble!)
