You know, you reminded me of how they love to throw around the term "RINO", meaning of course, Republican in name only. Yet these are the same posters who tell us all that unless we get their social right candidate that they will refuse to vote Republican. Now, I ask, who is a Republican in name only?
We'll see one we get to the primaries. Nevertheless, how do you expect a conservative to react when he's told that the Republican Party's frontrunner is a liberal?
Now, I ask, who is a Republican in name only?
At this rate, the direction the Republican Party is headed in will turn the party itself into a RINO. Unfortunate...but with the party tilting leftward, classic Republicanism (AKA, conservatism) is being left in the dirt.
I have to agree wholeheartedly with you on that statement. I've argued that a RINO is an impossibility, as a Republican is anyone that registers with the GOP, Alan Derschowictz could be a registered Republican and a liberal whack at the same time. If they used the term CINO, conservative in name only, then it would make a bit of sense as it is an ideology, not an organization.
Still we all need to keep in mind that Free Republic is a conservative forum, not an arm of the Republican National Committee. It's mission statement says something about promoting conservatives, not necessarily Republicans.
A great deal of people I read in here are really libertarians, some actually appear to be liberal (or American liberal which is more Britney Spears than Karl Marx), some who claim to be conservatives come across as charter members of the Charles Manson Party. Quite a few mistake conservatism with Christianity and Judaism with liberals. (although I can't square that with Menachem Begin, Ariel Sharon or the Likud party)... Heck, even Sam Colt was a Democrat. (go figure)
The person who votes for candidates who support the platform of the Republican Party is a true Republican.
The person who votes for any candidate with "Republican" after his NAME is a Republican in Name only.
When the name is devoid of meaning or principle behind it, it's just that, a name.
Think about it: if you vote for a liberal like Hillary, or Rudy, just because they called themselves "Republican", yeah, you're a RINO.
Many of those never vote Republican and have no intention of voting Republican. Some even admit they aren't but still believe they have some say on the nominee.
Very good and this one is a keeper....
In the 1998 Illinois gubernatorial race, I voted for the pro-gun, pro-life, small-government candidate. I did not vote for the anti-gun, pro-choice, big-government candidate. Since the former had a (D) next to his name and the latter an (R), does that make me a RINO?
Incidentally, the latter candidate won very narrowly, proceeded within his first year to force through anti-gun legislation (calling legislators repeatedly back from break until they passed it!), and has since been convicted on corruption charges.
