I didn't get a chance to hear him speak at GOE, but Mrs. Smooth and I were there. It's a day I will long cherish.
It was one of the most honorable days of my life. I know it was a pure honor to stand next to all of the Vietnam Vets.
I like how he thinks. I understand it anyway. I am willing to send emails and the like. I do that anyway.
I gather all the good news on the War on Terror (WOT) I can find every night. I find a lot of good stuff here from Sand Rat. Then I put it in a email and I mail it to the commie newspapers, TV Stations, and others like FNC who are good people. I send it to the Commies because they seem to have trouble finding and reporting good news. Sometimes FNC does too, so I want to remind them :-)
I figured I would help them out a little. I also blind copy a lot of friends and family. I hope they send it to their friends. I went on vacation to DC and missed sending it a few nights. I might miss a Saturday night once in a while, but that is it. I am loyal to the email.

You would be amazed at the amount I can find in a night. IT is amazing how the media misses it. But they don't miss one road side bombing. Anyway, I get good feedback from friends. And I feel like I am doing something. May not be much, but it helps with my Post Traumatic Liberal Stress Disorder (PTLSD).

A very real way of helping the troops directly is to organize a "BBQ club". Four or five homeowners set up a club, each person agreeing to host a party (not necessarily a BBQ) for a few people every month or two.
The idea is to go to a local military installation or Reserve and National Guard post. With the permission of the post authorities, provide a simple list of when each small party is to be held, where it will be, and how many military personnel can be greeted there as guests. The senior post NCO will then let it be known to anyone who is interested and decide who can go.
On the day of the party, the one homeowner who is the host drives out to the post and picks up three or four service members, then drives them to his house for a small party. When it is done, then he drives them back to their post.
A group of just four or five homeowners, each having one party a month, can morale boost 15-20 military personnel a month, with all sorts of home cooked food, family delicacies, and other guests to rub elbows with the troops and give them encouragement. Plenty of pictures should be taken.
(As a rule of thumb, though, little or no alcohol should be served.)
This is all based on where you live, though, as not everybody lives near to such an installation or post. But if you do, a BBQ club is easy, inexpensive, and a great way to hear war stories. Plus you're doing something real and positive and direct for our military.
