subscribe to the RNC for Life Report and this month's issue has ranked the candidates. At the top is Senator Sam Brownback, who sponsored the Partial Birth Abortion Act, Human Cloning Prohibition Act, the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, the Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act and the Assisted Suicide prevention Act. He has also held hearings on the impact of abortion on women.
Also ranked highly are Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter and Tan Tancredo. At the absolute bottom of the pro life list is Rudy Giuliani. The RNC for Life points out that Rudy stated in 1999 "No, I have not supported that [a ban on partial birth abortion, which even Ed Koch and Daniel Patrick Moynihan supported], and I don't see my position on that changing." NARAL in 2000 refused to choose between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Rudy Giuliani because they were equally pro abortion.
Rudy has moderated his position on abortion slightly and stated that he would "appoint conservative judges". However, those of us who are actively pro life know that if and when Roe v. Wade is overturned it will go back to the states where there is much work to be done. We also know what happened when Bill Clinton was elected and overturned the Mexico policy, put in place by Ronald Reagan, which prohibited funding to groups overseas which advocated for legalized abortion.
There are some people on this website who think that pro lifers will vote for Rudy or that the issue "does not matter" and that we are a "bunch of extremists". These people are mistaken - we will not throw the babies overboard.
Rudy's position is not IN THE MAINSTREAM. It is very, very extreme. In fact, it is a tribute to the pro life movement that Rudy would moderate his hardline pro abortion position AT ALL. I predict that many pro lifers will stay home in November or write in a name if Rudy is the candidate. And, for the record, we accept converts. It is by changing people's hearts and minds that we will eventually win.
Waiting on the Rudybots to defend the indefensible.
Why did you have to go and post this?
Now all the Rudybots will come swarming in here defending their “man.”
:-)
On the upside, he gets very high marks from NARAL, Planned Parenthood, The NY Liberal Party, N.O.W., and the HandGun Control, Inc.

Emily’s List said nice things about him too.

Its not a really strong endoresement. Not worthy of a thread, but there nonetheless.

I think the more damaging thing for Rudy on this issue is his very clear support for tax-payer funded abortions.
If you think the Republican Party is just NOT LIBERAL ENOUGH,,,,and needs to move a lot further to the LEFT,,,,
JulieAnnie is JUST THE MAN FOR THE JOB!!!
Yes, that’s one aspect of why he has a zero rating.
His latest statements last week declaring abortion a constitutional right will put him into a below zero rating.
Another reference to him by Ellen Malcolm, President of EMILY’s List. She calls his candidacy “exciting” but says that he likely has too much baggage due to his second wife. It still sounds like he would be her choice.
Holy Schmoly
This is one of those “First Principles” where a candidate’s stand on one issue calls into question his entire political agenda and even his mental/emotional fitness to serve in office.
Combine his history with his utter incoherence as he tries to soothe conservative fears now that he is running, and what you end up with is a stinking pile of leftism.
