Intel Report: Iran Could Have Nuke Bomb by 2009

A new intelligence report reveals that Iran may be closer to producing a nuclear weapon than previously thought, and could have enough bomb-grade material for a single bomb in less than three years, CBS News disclosed.

Officially, U.S. intelligence authorities say Iran faces technical difficulties and will not be able to become a nuclear power until 2015.

But weapons expert David Albright, president of the Institute for Science and International Security, said the U.S. is not giving Iranian scientists enough credit.

"I think Iran can get enough highly enriched uranium for a nuclear weapon sooner than that,” he told CBS. "I think the 2015 number reflects too much skepticism about Iran’s technical capabilities, and they are making progress.”

Earlier this month ABC News disclosed that Iran had more than tripled its ability to produce enriched uranium in recent months, "meaning Iran is expanding its enrichment program at a pace much faster than U.S. intelligence experts had predicted.”

Albright – a former United Nations nuclear inspector – was quoted at the time as saying: "If they continue at this pace … then you’re looking at them potentially having enough enriched uranium for a nuclear weapon in 2009.”

Pentagon officials say the new intelligence report shortens the time period during which Israel could launch a preemptive strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, according to CBS News.

"The Israelis have long believed that Iran is closer than U.S. intelligence believes it is,” said former CIA officer Bruce Riedel. "If they now hear that the Americans think it’s getting closer as well, it puts pressure on Israel to take its own action.” Ominously, Riedel added that Iran would view an Israeli strike with American-made warplanes as no different than a U.S. strike, and the attack could touch off a war with Iran.

Sounds like we'll have to do something about Iran during the Bush presidency, not wait for later.

I think it would be more neighborly if we went ahead and sent them one now.

“by 2009”

How clever. Wait just long enough to avoid possible United States military action.

Why is the US media so chicken -hit?

Time was.. there were REAL MEN in the media...MEN ON OUR SIDE!! MEN willing to ride with a US MILITARY HERO and perhaps pause for a prayer for his country or at least...the men he was riding with at the time.

Time was...when the United States was ‘INVINSIBLE’...and all enemies took pause...

Now a days, the democrats publish war plans in bills on CSPAN and the media does their best to degrade the American spirit and the will to win.

Be Afraid...be very afraid.....

Given what we really know about the recent behaviors of our government and her most effective foreign lobbies (the UK, Italy, the Vatican, the “Palestinians,” the Chinese, the Mother Church of Russia, AKA the prevailing United Russia Party,...), and recent prevailing sentiments among the more windy, recently wealthy voters in both of our parties, Iran will develop nuclear weapons while continuing to form closer ties to the Saudis and other nations along the way. Too much of our materiel has been sitting around Iran for too long, and the political wind from all sides here just isn’t right. Physically stopping Iran isn’t even allowed by our current business and governmental leadership to be a viable topic.

IMO, our Government should invade, occupy and denazify Iran, but it’s not happening. She’ll come to us, and it doesn’t look like we’re going to be mentally prepared for it.

Ominously, Riedel added that Iran would view an Israeli strike with American-made warplanes as no different than a U.S. strike, and the attack could touch off a war with Iran.

Hence we will attack WITH Israel.
The main object to learn from this is that the first strike
MUST MUST be decisive and utterly complete, no wussy, half ass drop a few smart bombs and hope they get the message kind of liberal example of war, but as total as we can make it from the get go.

So if Iran considers an Israeli strike as a U.S.strike
should we not consider an Al Quida attack as an Iranian one?

Personally I feel the Iranians are closer than even these
reports. I have no proof but more of a fingertip feeling.

The way things look now — Iran may not exist in 2000..

It took just one certifiable lunatic a$$hole to destroy a nation -— thousands of years in the making..

Iran is about 1/5 the size of the United States, 1.68 millions square Kilometers. To occupy the land in Iran we need over 1 million troops. It is not practical to do land occupation. The only solution with the Iranian terrorist regime is a military one but in the form of a massive Air and Naval war to destroy their nuclear facilities, military infrastructures, command and control centers, etc.. Such a war will weaken the terrorist mullah a lot and it will give an golden opportunity for the Iranian people to overthrow them, but in this case we need to keep a close military air support support for the rebels who are overthrowing the regime.

Considering they have admitted they have senior Al Qaeda under “house arrest,” and do not allow us to talk to them... we’ve had plenty of reasons after 9/11 and before Iraq to strike them.

I agree with you on the "air and naval war" part but not on limiting the action to those kinds of assaults. Occupation requires fewer soldiers than in the past due to newer tactics and technologies. Many of the people in Iran are against the current regime, and most of that land area is virtually devoid of people conducive to post-war rebellion. Almost all civilians tend to go along after military occupation.

I heard the new generation is crying on the job! For the love of Jesus...can we get some real men back?

We should have known that all of those years they were making Ken Doll’s hair plastic, that there would be hell to pay!! (grin)

I guess Ken is happy with his hair, Barbs is happy with her lot........and radical Islam sails the seas unabated and undetired.

God Bless this Country.......soon....

"Intel Report"

That would be the same "intel" that predicted the downfall of the Soviet Union?

LMFAO

Iran already has the bomb.

For those who still find it hard to understand - let me give you a hint.
