Why would anyone kill Brown?

By Rev. Barbara Reynolds, NNPA Columnist

April 9, 2007

April ought to be the month that we not only reflect upon the Crucifixion of Jesus but also the untimely deaths of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and former Commerce Secretary Ron Brown, the man often suggested would become the nation's first black president.

What's the connection? So glad you asked.

If the reporter/witnesses, such as Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, had stopped talking and writing about the Assassination of Jesus and his subsequent Resurrection, what Scriptures would Christians have to base their faith upon? The Jesus followers could no more have depended upon the Roman soldiers to report truthfully on the Crucifixion than we can depend upon the FBI and the legacy of J. Edgar Hoover to set the record straight on the assassinations of King and Brown.

Brown was killed on April 3, 1996, on the eve of the 28th anniversary of the April 4, 1968 assassination of Dr. King.

Brown was the first African-American to chair the Democratic National Committee. President Clinton, himself, credited Brown, the consummate Washington insider powerbroker, as one of the main reasons why he won the White House in 1994.

It has been more than a decade since the plane Brown and 34 other passengers were riding in crashed on a mountaintop in Croatia. To this day, the following mysteries still remain:

Forensic experts for the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, (AFIP) who examined Brown at a mortuary in Dover, Delaware, reported that Brown had a circular hole in his head that was the size and shape of a gunshot wound. A search of the crash site showed no pieces of debris that could make such a perfectly drill-punched hole.

X-rays taken of Brown's head showed fragments resembling the pattern of a disintegrating bullet. The Institute later conceded that those x-rays turned up missing.

Shortly before U.S. investigators could reach Niko Jerkuic, who was in charge of the Croatian airport's navigation system, he was found dead from a gunshot wound in the chest-an alleged suicide.

Although initial reports, such as Time Magazine, reported that one of the worst storms in a decade thwarted Brown's plane from landing, later reports showed only drizzling rain.

Granted there could be many explanations to why Brown was the only one to have a suspicious gunshot wound since the plane was flying near areas involved in a civil war. Another possibility is that someone could have executed Brown and parachuted off the plane.

Whatever the reasons, the U.S. government's failures created suspicions of a political assassination. Several pathologists called for an autopsy. It still has not been done and the pathologists who tried to alert the public that something was wrong had their careers ruined, according to Jack Cashill, who wrote an excellent book, entitled "Ron Brown's Body."

In my book, "No I Won't Shut up," I tell of a conversation I had with one of those experts, Lt. Col. Steve Cogswell, shortly before he was officially muzzled. Dr. Cogswell was the AFIP deputy medical examiner who asked his supervisors to perform the autopsy. "This whole think stinks," he told them.

Shortly after his forthrightness, Cogswell told me, "I have been re-assigned. I have been demoted because of my reporting on Brown. Sometimes I feel my life is endangered, but people only get 'disappeared' if they are going to tell something, I have already talked and I have no new revelations, so the cat is already out of the bag. Without an autopsy it is just as irresponsible to say the wound was caused by a bullet as to say it was not."

Why would anyone kill Brown? And if someone wanted to kill him, why take 34 innocent people with him. Cashill pointed out that Brown, was the man, who knew too much, was heavily involved in alleged illegal fundraising activities for the Clintons and had mouthed off about not going down alone. Moreover, in the light of the then recent suspicions around the so-called suicide of Vince Foster, another suicide might have raised too many suspicions.

Why do I care? I care not only because, murder is immoral and illegal, but if African-Americans, do not care do you expect the Romans to care?

I care because two weeks before his death, Brown sent word to me to attend one of his high-powered Cabinet meetings. Oddly enough, I had been in Washington journalism circles for more than 20 years and had never heard from Brown. We were not friends. He was not a source. But that day when he announced a new program to aid Africa, he called me to watch.

At a time when I hear no main-stream political leaders calling attention to the mysterious death of Ron Brown, I am watching, just like I believe, Brown, himself, knew I would.

Why doesn’t the godlike Dick Morris have the answer to that?

I think someone is a little bit comma-happy. Example: I care not only because, (<--) murder is immoral and illegal, (<-- this one might be legitimate) but if African-Americans, (<--) do not care do you expect the Romans to care?

Whether or not Brown was murdered, one thing was clear... He wasn’t going to take the fall for the Clintons. He may have been loyal, but he wasn’t going to jail for their high crimes.

Man, I wish Limbaugh still had his tv show. That was great, and scary, stuff.

That clip still sums up Clinton quite well.

I am not a conspiracy theorist if I were I would find it hard to believe anyone who would kill a whole plane load of people to protect a President would not have staged an accident for a certain intern.

None of the Clinton murder conspiracy buffs have ever had an explanation for that one.....

it was ALL over Free Republic at the time.

Where was this fellow who wrote the article?

He can google all our old threads and perhaps should have before writing an article that comes across as a greiving obit not hard detective journalism.

If I am off mark...so be it.. tired and going to catch 20 zzz that is.

I’ll never forget the two boys on the railroad as boyz are snooping around at the pre teen age....well we know the rest of the story.

That's a good point.

Umm, Mr. Clinton* won election in 1992...what else did the author misstate?

* Etiquette dictates that former US Presidents be referred to as "Mr." or "The Honorable" - somehow "Mr." seems more appropriate...;)

It was odd in that way.
Darn he missed all the folks who wrote on the issue here in the day.
I don’t think it was a Roman or um something vs. thing.

We called it a Clintonista Hit.
Fig Neuton gone wild.

Linda Tripp probably saved Lewinsky’s life by recording the conversations and going public.

It usually works with my conspiracy minded friends. I just noticed the punctuation (or lack thereof) on my previous post.

It must be midnight!

:)

A suicide by a young lady obsessed with the President (and thought to be a stalker by her co-workers) would not have been too hard to arrange by talented people.

What about the Air Force stewardess that survived the crash—then died of a broken neck?

And what about the homing beacon that was moved so that the plane plowed into the mountainside instead of being guided to the airport?

From the beginning this was whacked out. The “worst storm in a decade” was a lie from the beginning.Brown and the stew survived the crash, and then both were dispatched.

Someday, someone will spill the beans about the entire corrupt Clinton co-presidency, from Waco to the USS Cole—and it probably will be more than we ever imagined.

maybe she did....... I would not put it past a few of them but it seems rather easy to get carried away with the topic. I have always thought Monica would have told her true love if she had told anyone else.

It is frightening to think of how naive she was through the whole thing.

It is still sickening to think such a cad was Commander-in-Chief. My father was a general and he would have been busted in rank and discharged if he had diddled a private.

Amen to that...and all Clinon could do is find some bleed heart valley teacher Oregonian and his wife to say she stalked him after he “did” her for a semester.

Trying to make her a “trendy” gal.

Thank God for rural Oregonians.

Never heard about the neck broken survivor.

Any links to such?

Remember Jenny Flowers light loafered neighbored who had everything on camera as a early day peep hole for his own needs.

They beat the heck out of that lil man and put the fear of death in him so he would never speak.

To bad Jenny didn’t have some angry big bear living next store instead.
