The driver, later identified as Cepeda, was not found to be under the influence of drugs.

Of course not. He has a history on the commercial side of the business, not as a consumer.

He played the race card.

Suisun City, next to Fairfield—the city of Travis AFB, is a crime ridden town in and of itself. Lots of random gun play in the streets, strong arm robberies of pedestrians and occasional car jackings.....a real fun place. He could stay home and mentor his own town.

He’ll get a walk to First, steal rehab to Second, make it to Third on sacrificed evidence and get thrown out at Home.

At the end of his career he as the Red Sox 1’st DH. I saw him get thrown out at first (On more than one occasion) by the right fielder. (Man were his knees shot!)

Yep, that’s the card. And then one day I came home from school and my Mother had “cleaned” my room. No one has done more for the Sports paraphenalia business than the American Mother.

"Cepeda was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999, and had a lifetime batting average of .297, with 379 home runs and 1,364 RBI."

I didn't realize he was in the HOF. Those are very good stats, but a little short of a guaranteed ride to the HOF. Ask Jim Rice - or did he finally make it?

Nope, looks like he is still trying for the HOF. I'm not a student of the game but this site seems to make a good case for his inclusion.

Here’s some thing I heard from a while ago, and may be an urban legend. When the Orlando area was preparing for its first NBA team, the Sentinel asked readers to submit names for the team. The 3rd most popular name was . . . The Orlando Cepedas.

Cha Cha actually could run pretty good early in his career (with the Giants). But when the Braves would come to Wrigley Field in the early '70s, and Cepeda still was playing the field, I thought he must have been the slowest man in baseball at that point.

But the guy could hit!

Now it looks like he's still getting his hits.

As soon as I saw your baseball card I immediately could smell that flat rectangular gum that came in a pack of those treasured cards of yesteryear.

Those are very good stats, but a little short of a guaranteed ride to the HOF.

Keep in mind, Cepeda's career basically spanned the most pitcher-dominated period in baseball history since the Deadball Era. Those stats were great for his own time, but they look a little tame today--especially for an OF/1B/DH. Also, Cepeda did not make it into the HOF the regular way but only through the Veterans' Committee (and that, when the VC was easier than now). Yes, he's a HOFer but a fringe one.

Yep, I keep it below 75 (65 limit) going through there. It's easy to get distracted by the big Budweiser plant ;-)

Yep, I live in Vacaville and worked in Vallejo for 15 years so I too know where of you speak. Roll'n with the flow through there at 80 mph is an everyday thing. Just watch your mirrors, the sky, and whatever else you may have in your vehicle.

The CHP likes to position a motorcycle officer off the interstate and off their bike, usually at an emergency highway phone, with the officer shooting pictures while standing at the phone, on EB 80 right at the American Canyon ramp, right at that phone there, snapping drivers coming off the Hunter Hill dip.

Same number of rolling units and citations without the Eye in the Sky....for those low cloud days we get in the summer. Gotta keep the troops in the field and the revenue flowing.

I think I heard that too, somewhere. What’s a Cepeda?

Didn’t remember Orlando for being much of a power guy. That’s a respectable number of dingers for that era.
