Letter: Conservatives in the minority - (Clueless on Campus Alert)
The Daily Egyptian - Southern Illinois University ^ | 5-2-07 | Kyle Raccio

Posted on 05/02/2007 2:40:22 PM PDT by Volunteer

Dear Editor:

Colleen Lindsay, in her recent column in the DE, claims that her conservative views are being "squelched" by the university community.

She must not be taking into consideration the fact that she pretty much got front-page press on the editorial page. Actually, it was considered a "column" not even an editorial. The rest of us little people only get 300 words.

As for "diversity and open-mindedness," this is like the pot calling the kettle black for right-wingers. They oppose a woman's right to her own body, they think the government should get to dictate our living arrangements (based on the religious beliefs of a conservative), they want to censor TV and the media. That's just a taste of why it is so laughable that Ms. Lindsay is claiming conservatives are being "squelched!"

Now, I wonder if Ms. Lindsay did research on the results from the latest election. Aside from Mayor Brad Cole and his conservative supporters promoting a traditional values agenda of beer and smoke inhalation, take a look at the student precincts. Cole (the conservative) trumped Sheila Simon in all of them.

A student by the name of Brad Miller, according to the DE, was happy to be downing free beer at Copper Dragon in exchange for voting for Cole. So, there's that liberal atmosphere on campus you're talking about again!

Lindsay encourages others to do research, but I very respectfully suggest she take her own advice before she makes accusations against our campus community. The fact is that America is on the side of progressivism for the first time since the early 1990s. Elections have consequences, and it's time conservatives got used to being in the minority.

Only 2-5% of college-age people join the military. The rest are like this yuppie larva.

She’s only a freshman, which likely would mean 17-19.

Dear Kyle: I was an idiot when I was your age, too.

I’m wondering about your stat. Do you mean only 2-5% of college age kids who are attending college join the military or the larger group of all kids that age including those who don’t attend college?

Also, what percentage of the population in that age group are actually in the military? Does the total # of military members exceed 5% of the that age group?

The vast liberal majority is pure fantasy. The democrats gained control of congress with a few tens of thousands of vote at best. Chuck Schummer himself said it was only about 10,000 votes.

They tell us that “America chose Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to lead America” but the reality is that SOME of the people of one congressional district chose Nancy Pelosi and SOME the people in a sparsely populated state chose Harry Reid.

They claim that conservatives turned to democrats for leadership but that’s also fantasy. The reality is that conservatives actually punished bad behavior and general wimpiness of the republicans.

The upside is that democrats are believing their own propaganda and that’s always a bad idea.

This is an example of my tax dollars at work.

The above student is a "Political Science" major at the University where I work. He is responding to a small article in this week's school newspaper in which another student complained that conservative views were squelched on campus.

"As for 'diversity and open-mindedness,' this is like the pot calling the kettle black for right-wingers."

What an amazingly racist analogy young man. Should not both the kettle and pot be judged on their merit and not how black they are? Then again, you did mention 'diversity' which is not about merit but about the hue of your skin.

"They oppose a woman's right to her own body,"

No, actually I don't oppose a woman's right to her own body. She can do with her body as she wishes. I would guess, however, you are referring to abortion here. I would remind you that abortion is more about a woman's right to the body of another person - the unborn child she is carrying. I personally am in favor of that unborn woman having a right to her own body too.

"they think the government should get to dictate our living arrangements (based on the religious beliefs of a conservative),"

I have no clue what the hell this student is getting at here. I assume he is blaming conservatives for the fact that he can't shack up with his girlfriend in the dorms on campus. Don't blame Conservatives or the GOP for that sport. You will want to blame these people they call "Fathers". See, the Father people have seen guys like you who get drunk, get rowdy, and generally act like animals. They just don't want their daughters living in close quarters with you. The university sees these Fathers as "customers" or "people who pay tuition" and tend to give them what they ask for if possible... or if not forced to do otherwise by a liberal faculty member or the ACLU.

"they want to censor TV and the media."

I know that NPR would like you to believe that there is only one belief among conservatives. But, it's just not true. The thing is, I don't give a rip what you watch on TV or listen to on the radio. I don't care. I personally pay for satellite radio to listen to what I like. I also pay taxes, so that NPR can continue to broadcast the Democratic agenda and denigrate the service of my friends still on active duty.

" That's just a taste of why it is so laughable that Ms. Lindsay is claiming conservatives are being 'squelched!' "

Actually, at no time did you address the fact that Conservative views are squelched on campus. You did not mention professors who allow no dissent, or department heads who use faculty meetings to preach leftist views, or the Democratic campaign posters on campus - including in the windows of Deans on campus, in violation of State law.

“They oppose a woman’s right to her own body”

No Kyle, they oppose KILLING babies. They oppose the killing of innocent, helpless babies that cannot defend themselves from selfish, cruel, heartless, narcissistic “Pro choicers”.

Yes, that’s exactly the main problem I have with this mindset...Kyle thinks a dissenting point of view is “hate speech” that’s a verbal assault, then the reaction is to suppress that assault.

“They oppose a woman’s right to her own body”

We do? I don’t care if Kyle Raccio’s girlfriend has sex with furniture in the privacy of her own home (which she probably does after dating him for any length of time). Here’s some some logic for you Kyle. Since my penis is part of my body, can I rape whomever I please with it? Be careful about saying “no”, because you wouldn’t want to oppose a man’s right to his own body.

“they think the government should get to dictate our living arrangements (based on the religious beliefs of a conservative)”

We do? Hey Kyle, you can live with 20 people and have sex with them every night if you want, just don’t expect us to support communal marriage between you and the other 19 folks you might be shackin’ up with.

“they want to censor TV and the media”

Yeah, sure Kyle...Don Imus was ran outta town by a host of right-wingers. /sarc/

“The fact is that America is on the side of progressivism for the first time since the early 1990s”

Kyle, this statement confirms that you are indeed a freshman in political science.

Amazing - this guy is only a FRESHMAN and he shows the same maturity as Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and many others who are now leading the Dem parade! I guess stupidity and closed mindedness have no age limit.

Most recent recruiting stats I coudl find are here:

http://usmilitary.about.com/od/joiningthemilitary/a/07recruiting.htm

According to census.gov, there were 26,242,000 18-24yo’s.

I stand corrected: it’s even lower, more like less than 1%.

In all fairness, I am pretty certain Kyle has been watching CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, and NPR - so he knows all the talking points. See his quote, "elections have consequences."

When “college kids” grow up, earn their own way and produce something other than improved revenues for distilleries then we can pay attention to them.

Just joined yesterday - you aren’t related to Kyle, are you? Articulate is hardly adequate - idiotic might be more like it.

You may let Kyle know, directly, at:

I somehow doubt his professors cover FR in class.

True - professors aren’t known for covering anything but the liberal fantasy world and doing everything in their power to stifle anyone who doesn’t agree with them. Thanks for the offer but I’ll let you pass it on to the professors yourself.

By the way, Volunteer, I sympathize with you for being the lone dissenter on campus. I work in a similar setting and know how frustrating it can be - these people all have the Dem talking points down and get downright hostile if they are asked to substantiate what they are saying.

I agree with you 100%. I have encountered this in every single professional setting on campus. I have also noticed that at my University, Liberals seem to be the only people who absolutely insist on telling you their political views at every turn.
