WTF? They just elected a right center person for the first time in like 40 years. Other than this foolish blurb, this is a good article.
Sarkozy did not disavow Hallyday; instead he declared that the singer was quite justified. If he won the election, said Sarkozy, he would cut tax rates to entice Franceâs high earners back home. That promise was important to many more people than Johnny Hallyday. Something like half a million young French people are estimated to be living in southern England.Rock and roll ain't noise pollution.
Very true. In his analogy, the patient has to know hes sick and want the cure. It takes more for some to realize than others.
Im with you on hoping France is ready.
How do you say 12-step program, in French?
Johnny Hallyday was supposed to show for Sarkozy’s speech on the Place de la Concorde, but never appeared, according to TV5. Apparently a big let-down for Sarko.
Artists are flaky. I don’t think it necessarily means anything. I’m sure Sarko was let down by Johnny Hallyday’s no-show, but I doubt he was greatly surprised.
btt
“What I’m getting at is that these socialist policies aren’t entirely an outcome predicated by a set of clearly-defined political beliefs, but something more akin to psychology and collective national history that’s harder to pin down and therefore also more difficult to argue against. I’ve tried.”
Maybe it goes back to Marie Antoinette and “let them eat cake”.
from Le Figaro :
10.00 pm: Fouquets restaurant, a convivial refuge
Everyone wants to see the new President of the French Republic. Around 200 people carrying "Young People for Sarkozy" banners have broken through the CRS barriers around the roads leading to Fouquets, the famous brasserie on the Champs-Elysées. They all want to share a moment with Nicolas Sarkozy, who is there to relax before addressing his supporters who have gathered en masse at the Place de la Concorde where a giant concert is being held.
The atmosphere was calm yet cordial. In the background, a few Socialist supporters chant, "Ségo présidente!". But their hearts are not really in it.
This just in from Boz at French Election 2007:
“Although it may not turn out to be true, Sarkozy has been elected on a platform of competence, and that will mean that voters will expect results. Luckily, they only had to wait until today when singer Johnny Hallyday announced that he will leave his exile in Switzerland and return to France now that Sarkozy will cap taxes at 50%.”
Johnny Hallyday left France because he was being taxed at 78%.
:’) It’s the same story with the partisan dolts who buy into global warming demagogues.
