I thought Carter quit the Southern Baptist in protest of their statement of faith. If so, what’s he trying to do in influencing the Southern Baptists? He’s not one anyway....
Joshua Murchavik, in his "Commentary" article on Jimmy Carter, alludes to Jimmah's anti-Semitism as related to the principles of the Vatican before the earth shaking Vatican II.
I'm pretty sure that pre Vatican II thinking matters very little to Southern Baptist, Jimmy Carter. I think Jimmah's anti-Semitism stems more from his admiration for the racist, anti-Semitic populist, Tom Watson. Carter has expressed his admiration for the anti-Semitic populist who was largely responsible for the Jewish Leo Frank getting lynched.
If any freeper wants to read more about racist populist, Tom Watson, and his influence on the Carter family one can read the letters section of the present edition of "Commentary" magazine (just out). Joshua Murchavik also acknowledges the prescience of the commentators about Tom Watson in his reply to his critics. Ayn Rand first alerted me and her other listeners to Carter's phoniness when, before the 76 election, she pointed out that Carter was infected with power lust.

This one Jew who is convinced that ‘Possum Man does not have the best interests of either Christians or Jews at heart. I think he is merely blathering what his Saudi paymasters wish him to say.
I think my favorite part of this is that there are people who think Jimmy Carter actually has some credibility or stroke with Evangelicals.

Well, I read that he quit his membership not too long ago (a few years back) when the Southern Baptists updated a portion of their statement of faith. He quit in protest over it. That was good for the Southern Baptists to get rid of someone like him. They don’t need a Jimmy Carter type in the ranks of the Southern Baptists. Now, if they could get rid of Clinton, too....
Since Carter gave Southern Baptists the big heave-ho several years ago, I don’t think too many will give a hoot what he thinks—that is, if they ever did in the first place.
Carter is such a tool.
What an evil man.
Same trouble with Carter as a President and a longer and worse time as an ex-President.
I cannot wait for the time when I get to watch his state funeral on TV. The speeches by the attendees should be very funny indeed.

Not hardly! That may be what they claimed to begin with but it ain’t what they espouse now!
Here’s the five cent recap: in the late 1970’s or early 80’s, a group of people, primarily from from Texas, became concerned about what was being taught in Seminaries. They started suggesting that professors state their position on the inerrancy of the Holy Bible. The professors wouldn’t go along with that, preferring to pontificate, theorize, and obfuscate.
The “Inerrantists” eventually took over the SBC, and the “Moderates” and many profs pulled out and formed the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Naturally, Peanut had to get some free publicity, and since he never met a heresy that he didn’t like, sided with the CBF.
The whole thing has caused a lot of discord in the denomination, and you can still get treated in a CBF church to much moaning and groaning about the cushy academic positions that were lost.
No word from them about presenting the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost, though. That’s a lot of trouble, you see.

I can't speak for the "most" issue. However I know a lot who do not believe that. In fact, that started in the seminaries somewhere in the past century and many members do not agree with it. But they do not put the views of that particular point in the same class as their doctrine of salvation. In the end (pardon the pun) that issue isn't that big of a deal. Same thing goes for the wine was really grape juice stuff that filled the seminaries in the 1970s. I can pretty much say most do NOT belief that bunch of phooey.

It just astounds me that any Jewish group would go anywhere near Carter. Has he not cleary demonstrated his anti-Israel stance?
Okay, thanks for the update. Wow, did I somehow have that one turned around. But I believe that independent Baptist papers (Sword of the Lord, Flaming torch, Revival Fires, Baptist Challenger, others) also got that information turned around, ‘cause I most likely would have read about it in those papers. Of course, sometimes they are too quick to jump on something at the expense of accuracy. On the other hand, I could be the one who misunderstood the issue.
