Red Dawn scenario

Posted on 05/10/2007 2:57:33 PM PDT by wastedyears

Don't know how many people have seen this movie, but what are your thoughts on something like it happening? If so, who would be involved? Also, how easy or hard would it be to fight them back, taking into consideration their manpower?

It was Patrick Swayze’s best work in cinema.

In that situation, you are screwed no matter how much guns and ammunition you stockpile.

I've always been amused by those who brag about stockpiling gold and generators for when civilization breaks down. For when that happens, every lunatic from miles around will beat down the door of anybody stupid enough to turn on a generator and light up his house. And just try paying for a loaf of bread with a bar of gold. You might as well wear a T-shirt that says on the back "Follow me home and rob me."

Let's face it, in such a situation, best option is to lie low and pretend you are as dirt-poor as everybody else.

Too much television and too much food. Folks don’t wanna miss American Idol or 24 or their next meal.

Put 250 channels and near-universal access to TV in any of those countries, and make sure they have enough of their equivalent to beer and pretzels, and I bet they’d be peaceful, too.

Interrupt our TV and / or our food supplies and I bet we get violent, too.

Unfortunately, a lot of troops and cops will enforce Washington’s decrees, no matter how moronic. I don’t think they’d have to bring in UN blue helmets to do their dirty work. I just added them for dramatic purposes.

I think the likelihood of terrorists getting a nuke into an American city is far greater than an invasion in the sense portrayed in the movie. But I always had a soft spot for wolverines.

A better defense scenario is to get a CCW, you never know when the terrorist are going to strike. It’s also good for repelling criminals and boarders. The training will always be useful.

I've seen it several times, and laughed all the way through it.

That’s what Stalin said: What general would even think of invading the USA with 90 million marksmen waiting for them?

There might be as many now even with the increase of unarmed Liberals.

Silly but amusing movie, even during the time that the Soviet threat was real and commie filth were getting revolutions underway just south of the Mexican border. Love the director, though.

Another silly 'Red Dawn' notion I hear lately is that when they finally come for our guns, they'll use UN troops to round them all up.

Yeah, sure. You'll know when the Nigerian/Turkish/Pakistani UN troops have landed on American shores when we find their abandoned vehicles and discarded uniforms on the side of the road and we suddenly have a noticeable increase in cab drivers, community college students, Quickie-Mart workers, and SF Bay Area dot.com startups.

“For supply, they could probably travel from wallmart to Costco all across the US.”

At Christmas time all the Wallmarts put extra inventory outside in shipping containers. Next Christmas look for them, there is usually a lot of them.

I would joke with my wife that on Christmas day the Chinese Army would come pouring out of all the Wallmart containers and take us over! :)

“No school today?”

Agree Johnny. Wastedyears must have just woke up from about twenty years of hibernation. Today’s Russia can not even project power within it’s own country from border to border must less all the way to the U.S. What I can’t believe is that I am taking the time to even address this. No school for me today I suppose...

Another movie, “Amerika”, starring the wooden acting of Chris Christoferson, made the boring movie unwatchable. However, the premise is more believable. America must be taken over by Russian UN peacekeepers to preserve world order. UN laws are US laws.

Not enough lift capabilities worldwide to get the manpower into the U.S. to do a proper invasion.
Sure there are enough tanks and firepower just not enough ways to get them here in a timely manner.
Hell the run up to the invasion of Iraq took months of logistics. And at that you had the U.S. military, the only outfit with such abilities.
And Iraq is what, the size of South Carolina?

“If they get away with building the 1/2 mile wide, fenced toll road from mexico to canada, I suspect the bad guys could just congregate in mexico and take numbers.”

My thought exactly. That trans Texas Corridor would provide a straight shot to Kansas City from Mexico.

I loved that movie! I’ve seen it several times with my brothers. It’s just one more reason to keep a few extra bricks of ammo on hand ;^)
