Young Swedes lack knowledge about communism

Published: 9th May 2007 11:57 CET

Less than fifteen years after the last Soviet troops pulled out of the Baltic States, a new survey has shown that young Swedes are still in the dark about the fate of its neighbours behind the Iron Curtain.

A poll carried out by Demoskop on behalf of the Organization for Information on Communism (Föreningen för upplysning om kommunismen - UOK) found that 90 percent of Swedes between the ages of 15 and 20 had never heard of the Gulag. This can be contrasted with the 95 percent who knew of Auschwitz.

"Unfortunately we were not at all surprised by the findings," Ander Hjemdahl, the founder of UOK, told The Local.

"We had a strong hunch that this would be the case having spent a few years travelling around to various schools," he added.

Of the 1004 young Swedes involved in the nationwide poll, 43 percent believed that communist regimes had claimed less than one million lives. A fifth of those surveyed put the death toll at under ten thousand. The actual figure is estimated at around 100 million.

You don't have to wonder what our schools are teaching about the former and current communist murderers.. Just like the homosexual agenda, communism is taught as just another interseting and viable lifestyle choice..

""Of the 1004 young Swedes involved in the nationwide poll, 43 percent believed that communist regimes had claimed less than one million lives.

A fifth of those surveyed put the death toll at under ten thousand. The actual figure is estimated at around 100 million.

The poll also found that 40 percent of young Swedes believed that communism contributed to increased prosperity in the world; 22 percent considered communism a democratic form of government; 82 percent did not regard Belarus as a dictatorship.

"There were strategic reasons. For example, I think the Social Democrats only won one absolute majority in the post-war years. Therefore they had to rely on the support of smaller parties, one of which was the communist party.

"Another reason is that a large majority of Swedish journalists are left-wingers, many of them quite far left," he said.

"We have had lots of responses over the course of the morning. Some aggressive communists have called us to voice their opinions.

"But we also had two victims of communism crying on the phone, explaining that they had waited fifty years for this," said Hjemdahl.""

You will have to wait another 50 years in the good old USA to get the real skinny in our left-wing school systems.. :(

“You will have to wait another 50 years in the good old USA to get the real skinny in our left-wing school systems.”

Just as we are still waiting to see who was working with the old USSR here in the US during the Cold War. We should know who the fellow travelers were in the media, academia, and government, who held freedom so cheaply and furthered the cause of tyranny.

The bozos trying to equate the commie flag with the “stars n’ bars” was over the top.

If you do not learn from history you are doomed to repeat it. With Komrade Vlad in power it is not that much of a stretch to see the CCCP making a comeback.

Left-wingers are usually liars who cheer for the other side, irregardless of which unfortunate country they happen to infest.

This is why the distortion of information by the "Newsmedia" and university professors is so dangerous.

It amounts to disinformation, censorship, and indoctrination, and it creates an electorate and a population ignorant of reality.

Those who distort the information reaching the public are either too ignorant of this, too self-serving, or too thoroughly indoctrinated themselves to do otherwise, but they dangerously mislead and misguide the public.

An informed public is the best safeguard against tyrrany and against making unwise collective decisions.

The benevolent, if they understand this, will strive to keep the public truthfully informed.

It must always be kept in mind that there are people who, for various reasons, do not want the public to be truthfully informed and will do their best to distort and censor the information reaching the public.

We, the public, must be eternally vigilant.

Evidently, the Swedish public--and the public of other Western European nations--have not been,

And considering the extent of distortion, disinformation, censorship et al. in the American "Newsmedia" and academic institutions, Americans have not been as vigilant as they should be either.

Thank God for the internet and other means of mass communication here in the Information Age!

“We, the public, must be eternally vigilant.

- MSM is an even worse problem in Europe than in the US. Add the even larger amount of Socialists/Communists in the education apparatus over here in Europe.

You are perfectly right.

Some years ago, Sweden (my home country) took the initative to a big, international Holocaust conference in Stockholm, in part due to the rapid spread of phoney, semi-scientific ‘Holocaust revisionism’ among young people. There were also several educational efforts made in Swedish schools on the theme of WWII, Nazi Germany and The Holocaust. These measures have obviously resulted in an increased resistance against the above mentioned antisemitic propaganda.

Now, let us together, in both America and Europe deal with the lacking awareness concerning Communist crimes against humanity among younger as well as older generations. Big scale conferences like the one mentioned above
aren’t just PC publicity stunts, coordinated with educational efforts they can, apparently have a major impact.

Let’s unite in fighting tyranny and the enemies of democracy and freedom!

There was a plan to build a big memorial to the victims of Marxism in DC.

Don’t know what happened to it.

I would be amazed if ten percent of American high school kids have ever heard about the gulags. And a fair share probably don’t have a clue about the Holocaust. Furthermore I would bet that at least fifty percent of adult Americans have no idea what the gulags were. We have nothing to brag about concerning historical knowledge.

Thank you for your message.

It is easy to become disheartened by the power and ubiquity of the forces of decadence that threaten Western Civilization, in America, in Europe, and throughout the world.

I have lived in Europe and am of European descent. Obviously I am deeply concerned about what happens in Europe.

Voices, such as yours, that cry out for liberty and truth, are powerful. They give courage and optimism to the people of the world.

I think we are seeing the same thing happening here, Carlo.

Look at sites like DU, Moveon, and so many others. The pure hatred for America they spout is amazing, all the while they think they are being patriotic.

Then you have "leaders" like Hillary who publicly state that as president she wants to "take the profits" of big oil to use as she wishes. Then there are the gun grabbers, the tobacco grabbers, the coming of the "thought police." The PC crowd, the ACLU and the slow removal of God from all our lives.

Who do we thank for all these "progressive" moves?

“20 plus years ago, a Swedish girl told us there was no difference between the Soviet Union and the US!”

- What was her age?

Anyhow, Sweden (my home country) needs to confront its Socialist past and all the lies herein.

The reason Sweden today is a rich country is the accomplishments of Swedish multinationals like IKEA, Electrolux, H&M and Ericsson. Socialist politicians have tried to make us believe they themselves brought this sucess about. This is nothing but one big blatant lie.

“My wife taught at this junior high school, the kids are out of control, no discipline.”

- This is more alarming than most people would say.

If a nation can’t foster its youth, it is not in control of its future.
