John Edwards's ugly Memorial Day stunt
The Wall Street Journal ^ | May 15, 2007 | James Taranto

Posted on 05/15/2007 2:25:20 PM PDT by Zakeet

"Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards is calling on his supporters to turn this year's Memorial Day into a day of antiwar activism, saying that the best way to honor the troops is to demand an end to the Iraq war," the Washington Post reports. Edwards, who voted for the war, has set up a Web site for his effort, supportthetroopsendthewar.com.

Andrew Sullivan has observed of Edwards, "He's pretty, he has flowing locks, he's young-looking." But as lovely as Edwards may be on the outside, it is ugly to try to turn a solemn day honoring those who died in the service of their country into a political stunt.

What'll he think of next, turning Christmas into a day of pro-abortion activism?

I read that website as: “support the troop, send the war.com, LOL!

Untie their hands, unleash the Hounds of Hell upon the remaining terrorists and THEN bring the troops home. :)

Like it’s really a good idea to take military advice from a trial lawyer. But I do think Andrew Sullivan has a little crush on him.

Edwards is the Soros candidate. He will do whatever the leftist blogs demand. He’s a true lapdog.

Out of all the candidates, I find him the most slimy- and considering Hillary, that’s saying a lot.

Yecch! Why doesn't Sullivan just say "I want to French kiss him!" Just gross.

I gotta be honest. I’m not one to talk because I’m bald as a cue ball. But I don’t see how everyone says this guys hair is so perfect. To me he looks like Robin from the 60’s TV show Batman. If I had his mop I would definitely wear it hipper than he does.

99% of the Democrats give the others a bad name.

John Edwards is despicable.

“But I don’t see how everyone says this guys hair is so perfect. “

At $400 a hair cut it should be perfect. But I agree. If he combed it a little different he could have “Moe” hair. Nyuk, nyuk.

Once again, Ann Coulter is proven correct.

a day of antiwar activism

Lessee. Memorial Day started out as a day of remembrance of our Civil War dead. So, is Breck Girl saying he agrees with the Copperhead Democrats who "demanded an end" to that war? Is that what this airhead thinks he's re-enacting, or should I say enacting, because not even the Copperheads dared sully Memorial Day?

This is just par for the course. Democratics always turn memorials into shameless political rallies.

Personally, I don't see how that's possible.

“Saturday night, at a townhall meeting, a young lady disapproving of Senator Edwards’ expensive habits, asked me how much my haircuts cost. I was thrilled to show her a card from my local barber with seven hole punches in it. Three more cuts, I told her, and I get one free! She loved the demonstration and so did the press. The AP sent it out over the wire.” Tom Tancredo in Iowa

Presidential candidate and former Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) denounced House Democrats’ new Iraq proposal as “a perpetuation of war crimes against humanity.” “What Senator Reid calls a ‘compromise’ is really a concession,” Edwards said. “This proposal may not give George Bush all the money he wants, but it gives him all the money he needs to keep the war going.”

“Representative Murtha (D-Penn.) has made it clear that our troops are ‘cold-blooded killers,’” Edwards exclaimed. “Senator Durbin (D-Ill.) has rightly condemned the tortures carried out by our military prison guards. Continuing this war for even a minute longer continues the war crimes. I call upon Senator Reid and my fellow Democrats to cleanse themselves of war guilt, like I have, by repudiating their past support for this aggression against the Iraqi people.”

Edwards’ statement drew a sharp rebuke from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.). “It’s easy for this preening peacock to snipe at those in the Senate,” said Reid. “We still have to try to govern this country. Edwards has been relieved of all such responsibility. He can take whatever politically convenient stance he wants, no matter how asinine it might be.”

Apprised of Reid’s response, Edwards waxed indignant. “I’ll tell you what’s asinine,” Edwards said. “Voting more funding for a war you’ve admitted is lost. Some ‘Majority Leader’ we’ve got here. What a joke.”

Edwards said he is also considering legal action against Reid for “defamation of character.” “Senator Reid’s intemperate remarks may have irretrievably damaged my chance to become president,” Edwards complained. “If I don’t win this thing, I’m going to have to hold Senator Reid personally liable.”

what next!! AN ;

" Anti-Sept. 11th Day !!" !!!

As "I still care " said, "...Edwards is the Soros candidate. He will do whatever the leftist blogs demand.."

And many others here have said, "...who cares--he's a Trail lawyers..."

Or--,"...let the Real AMERICA/Americans SEE exactly now just who they have been and ARE "Dealing" with!--with Edwards comments!..."

Fact is--"IF" His comments had gotten a Larger RESPONSE by the Left---it would then have been called a Big Success; the Libbies and loonies would have run with it !/ supported it More!

Even in the FACE of it being SCREAMED at by what AMERICANS Really think!--it Would Still be BIG MEDIA NEWS!!

NOW--the whole story will "DIE"-thanks TO the Media-which AIDS the libbies--and they will try to Sweep this under the Rug and AWAY from the memory of Americans if they can!!

Remember this DAY!- Remember EDWARDS SAYINGS!!! Remember ALL their sayings!

--COPY the articles--save them-Keep them handy for your 08' Campaigning POSTERS!--cause I am sure the MEDIA even now is trying harder THAN EDWARDS to distroy all traces of this comment!

WE WON'T LET Americans FORGET!! what they say-where they satnd! and how DANGEROUS they are to America!!

Darth AirBorne

And On MEMORIAL DAY!!! My GOD!!!
